Valentine Puffer nose weed?

I was examining my Valentine Puffer today and noticed he had some sort of weed / algae growing out of his nose (beak), Im pretty sure the last one i "had", had the same thing and might of been his cause of death. Can anyone shed some light on this? How to get it off if i need to, what causes it etc.

Well after introducing the snails and hermit crabs the Valentine Puffer (I call him spud as hes dumb as a post) kept going for them, hitting usually the live sand down below. This in turn cause whatever was lodged in his beak / nose, to break or dislodge. This is a good outcome as i couldn't catch him. He may be dumb but the bugga can move when he wants to. Still didn't know what the beak weed was but its gone now.

Hard to tell what it is from that angle.
But I think it was probably just some algae he picked up some where.But thats just a guess.
