Biffy Breeds Tomato Clowns

Bifferwine

I am a girl
This is the start of my official clownfish breeding thread. Yesterday, my pair of tomato clowns laid eggs for the second time (they have been together for over 3 years). From here on out, I'm going to try to raise the fry. I may not be able to save this batch, but hopefully I can try to get some babies out of the next batch.

I have a whole bunch of new equipment to buy, and a whole bunch of stuff to order online. The shopping began at Walmart tonight. Pictures and updates forthcoming! (But don't expect any updates too soon or anything -- you know, the holidays and all).

Check out the MOFIB site for tons of great info Biffy! Sounds like a fun project(but also a ton of work) Merry Christmas!

Good luck in your new adventure. I did this with fresh water angels for years and supplied the LFS's, it was a blast.........but a lot of work!

Here is the stuff I picked up at Walmart last night.

I got a 10 gallon tank for the baby clowns, and a bubble bar to keep the water moving without hurting them.

I also got a clamp-on shop light to grow the phyto and rotifers for them, as well as two small pumps (one for the bubble bar and one to power all the airstones that are needed to grow the phyto and rotifers). And a little heater for the 10 gallon baby clown tank.

I'm going to order the phyto and rotifer cultures online tonight.

Lookin good!!!!

Just a question though, would setting up a fuge for the tank help with the maintaining of the food for the baby clowns?

Maybe set up a fine mesh in one corner to keep the babies safe?

Here is a good article that I found that I am going off of. They won't be large enough to eat food from the fuge until they are about 1 1/2 months old. Until then, they need to live off of rotifers, which I have to culture myself.

I ordered what I need to culture their food. All from Aquatic Eco-Systems, Inc.

I bought:
https://www.aquaticeco.com/customers/subcategories/1376/Brine-Shrimp-Eggs-Small/ (for when they grow up)
https://www.aquaticeco.com/customers/subcategories/1385/Mini-Hatching-Kit/ (to hatch the brine)
https://www.aquaticeco.com/customers/subcategories/1363/Marine-Microalgae-Disc-Cultures/ (to get the phyto cultures started)
https://www.aquaticeco.com/customers/subcategories/1364/ProLine-F-2-Algae-Feed/ (to feed the phyto)
https://www.aquaticeco.com/customers/subcategories/1379/Rotifer-Eggs/ (for the baby clowns to eat)
https://www.aquaticeco.com/customers/subcategories/1368/Rotifer-Sieve/ (to sift the rotifers)

I need to buy a small tank (around 5 gallons) to keep the fry in before I can move them into the 10 gallon I bought last night. I also need to buy a few more lights to culture the phyto and rotifers. I'll worry about that stuff once my order actually comes in.

Yep...those all sure look like Walmart items LOL Pickin's are of course slim there. At least they have stuff Target doesn't! Can't wait to see your breeding progress!
