    Longnose Butterfly's Gross Bump

think our Longnose Butterfly has a problem. Last night he was perfectly normal looking. This morning he has a large ugly boil-like lump on his right side beneath his eye. It looks reddish sometimes but the pictures I've (hopefully) included don't seem to show the redness. He's very active and is...

    Override the timer for moonlight

Actually I got some detailed instructions with pictures on how to override it. If you like I can provide you with that link. It is very well done and even an electrical novice like myself can follow the directions.

Can't figure out which is the hitchiker?!

Any suggestions? I know it's some kind of plankton but does phytoplankton sound right? Do I turn off the pump for a few minutes and use an eyedropper and drip some near the crevice? Can you help me figure out what the heck kind of bivalve it is? It obviously doesn't require lots of light...

Can't figure out which is the hitchiker?!

Yesterday we bought our 2nd coral at our local LFS. It's a small colony of green striped mushrooms. We were thrilled to notice a hitchiking white/green fan worm too. We got them home, placed them at the bottom of the tank and OMG the whole rock clamped! We aren't sure what kind of crustacean it...

    Override the timer for moonlight

:grumble: We have a 24G Nano DX The moonlight lamp and the other lamps are on the same on/off switch. We have the light(s) on a timer and the moonlight is never on in the dark. Could someone guide me through reconnecting or something so that we can turn the moonlight on after the main...

    Lets Just Hope......

A suggestion with regard to using tap water. You can use distilled water and it would be much safer for your tank. You can probably buy Distilled water for like 64 cents a gallon at WalMart. The salts mix well in it and it's got much less contaminants than regular tap water. :D

How and what do you feed starfish?

Final note: I finally did enough research to discover that the starfish is, indeed in the Fromia class. Unfortunately I was too late to figure that out and the poor thing died. He was in a tank that was far too small to support his needs. So I learnec NOT to buy something that I have not...

How and what do you feed starfish?

I just got back from the LFS where we got the starfish. The fish guy told us that it was called a "Pink Tile" starfish. I did some research online and found just a picture of a pink tile starfish and it does look very similar to what we have, however the picture posted on an online fish sale...

How and what do you feed starfish?

Thank you! He seems really happy he moves about over the live rock and stays awhile over especially juicy areas I suppose. I was told that I can expect him to live maybe a year because he doesn't have enough live rock (they said 100 lbs) is that a reasonable bit of information? We plan to get...

How and what do you feed starfish?

Thanks for the quick reply jhnrb! I have been researching for a week and at last I found the identity of my starfish but I still would like instructions on how to feed my FROMIA starfish. What does he eat? How can I tell that he is getting enough? Is he herbivore or omnivore? He is in a 25...

How and what do you feed starfish?

We just got our first residents in our 24 Gallon Nano, our cleanup crew! We bought a starfish that looks like a pink cookie with leather stampings on it. It has been crawling around on the live rock but I am wondering if it needs supplemental food. If anyone knows what kind of starfish we...
