I have mine pretty long too, to make it below the water level in the sump. I'll bet its gonna work great as it is, but if you got bigger reflectors (which it looks like you have room for) on your lights, i'm sure it would be even more productive!

Do you have any detrius build up anywhere in the tank, or maybe sponges or socks catching a bunch of stuff?

+1 on the fan. $10 desktop fan from Lowe's and a couple hooks to hold it in position blowing over sump. If it keeps a tank cool in Phoenix and Tucson I"m sure it will work anywhere. You could buy a lot of cool stuff with the money you would spend on a chiller!

I know...I really need to work an ATO into my system. I'm going out of town for 2 weeks this summer, and I really want to do that before then! And ya lilfish...I have one 18, one 16 and one 14, so I"m not sure how my heart's gonna hold out the next few years...!
