Too much pump, too little sump

So the verdict is in. Yes, you can have too much pump for a 29 gallon sump. I reduced from a 2000 gph reeflo snapper to a reeflo blowhole 1400. NO MORE MICROBUBBLES! And a silent pump. Happy, Happy, Happy.

Too much pump, too little sump

Steve Thanks for the idea. It appears you have some sort of media in the bubble tower. What is it? I have a similar tower, using a wide mouth 1 gallon jar to receive the return flow. Bubbles are forced up before the water is pulled under a sump panel. It also looks like you neck down the...

Too much pump, too little sump

Yes, 2000 GPH may have been a bit ambitious - but the tank really has rocking current if I can get past the bubbles! I've tried a sock and 2 sponges.

Too much pump, too little sump

Hey folks, I'm here looking for help again. I have a 90 gallon 1/2 round tank, which greatly limits the space beneath the aquarium. The biggest sump I can fit is a 29 gallon. I have installed a 2000 gph external Reeflo Dart. I have plumbed the pump to supply both my PM skimmer and two 1"...

Should deconstruct my live rock to look for a dead fish?

Turns out the advice here was right on. The only indication I ever saw of the dead fish was scales in the filter sock. Thanks for the advice folks.

Should deconstruct my live rock to look for a dead fish?

A question for you guys that have started up new systems. After allowing 5 weeks for my system to cycle, I purchased 2 chromis on Sunday as the first livestock in my tank. One never reappeared after release, the other is doing great, eating and swimming in the current. Should I start digging...

This setup is TOO DAMN LOUD!

Thanks for all the input. I may eventually move the sump into the basement, but for now I found biggest part of the problem. Turns out the plastic salinity meter was dropped between the pump plumbing and the stand, causing a big resonance issue. I owe the Dart folks an apology. This is still...

This setup is TOO DAMN LOUD!

The noise problem is from resonance from the pump/motor. I have foam underneath the pump now. No contact with the plumbing to any solid surface. I can live with the waterfall, just not the base notes revirberating around the house.

This setup is TOO DAMN LOUD!

I need help I have setup a 90 gallon tank, and planned for excellent water movement from an external Dart pump - around 1800 gph. Mission accomplished, it rocks for water movement. I just cant have this thing in my livingroom long term:frustrat: It is too loud. My sump contains a protein...

Skimmer - Berlin or PM Bullet?

Hey folks, quick question. I'm ready to install a protein skimmer in the sump, and have both a PM Bullet and a Red Sea Berlin 250. It's going to take work to install either way, so does anyone have a preference for one or the other? Thanks

    Complete livestock transfer?

Thanks for all the good info folks. I decided against the transfer of live rock and corals. Seemed a mini cycle was inevitable, and I'm not up to full blown coral ownership yet. Decided to purchase a bunch of live rock and use the slow and steady method. Thanks again.

    Complete livestock transfer?

I must be missing something. My tank is a completely new, empty setup - with the option to be filled with a fully functioning mature tank's livestock. What is there to cycle in an empty tank. I'd figure as long as there isnt a big die off of the live rock, all should be well.

    Complete livestock transfer?

I have just about completed the set up a 90 gallon tank and 29 gallon sump system. DI system is filling the tank now. What do you guys think about buying an established system. It has about 75 lbs of live rock, and 20 different SPS corals. Clown fish and anemone. I'm unsure about the...
