On my 29 gallon I have a HOB skimmer, HOB filter running purigen (not sure if it does much really) and do weekly water changes of 5 gallons.

Thanks for your help. My mom euthanized him tonight. He has been sick for the last 3 weeks or so and none of the two treatments for varying illnesses made a difference :( He was my first fish too.

Thanks for the reply, the middle section is going to be a fuge that the the algae scrubber just empties into also, it will still have a deep sand bed and such. I guess I will look into an ATO the system has been running w/o the sump for almost a year and I haven't had too much trouble with salinity.
