    Light Help

I can't answer your question. I wanted to go green with my hydroponics and switch to LEDs but so far those I know that tried the switch are finding they do not grow plants as well as promised/expected. I'd want to ask someone who has had them for a while how their coral is doing. I can say...

    My New Lights - Finally!

Absolutely gorgeous! I love the moon reef substrate. We have basically the same lights (w/different colored bulbs). I love the dusk setting. Are you going to add the LED moonlights? (R2 Extreme 4 3/8" LED Moonlight) Then you would have those sexy LEDs you wanted as well. :)

    Baby Starfish explosion???

Thanks little fish! :) I think he did feed the tank about once or twice a month prior to getting sick. Why else would he have the food? I fed it daily while he was in the hospital the first time. I don't think he wanted me feeding his tank after that. :) I really appreciate all the help.

    Baby Starfish explosion???

Sens, thanks for that info. My coraline is just starting to come back from the last cycle so it doesn't need anything feasting on it. :) Daughtery, given I don't have much living in the tank and I'm constantly in it trying to slowly remove a dsb... I think I can just remove them myself for...

    Baby Starfish explosion???

I found the answer... I think. <quote>Phosphate is present in the aquarium in two forms: inorganic (orthophosphate) and organic. The latter form is difficult to measure with all but the most advanced phosphate test kits. More frustrating is that it may be absorbed by algae as fast as it is...

    Baby Starfish explosion???

Thanks 14. I had just figured that out, but I'm glad you posted it. I didn't realize that was the actual name for the shrimp. :) Ok, reading another newbies post I just realized those things I'm calling fans are aiptasia. Luckily there are only a few of them... mostly on the rocks I haven't...

    Baby Starfish explosion???

Definately not micro brittle stars. They look more like Asternia Starfish. They must stay small and stayed on the sand for us never to have seen them before. That and before the tank had lots of things to look at... now it's just rocks, fans, a couple of fish, and algae. Thanks Fast. I...

    Baby Starfish explosion???

I took over my husband's tank. Pretty much sent it into the mother of all cycles which killed just about everything in the tank. It is embarrassingly ugly right now. I haven't added anything outside water to the tank. I have cleaned most of the rocks. My husband like to point out every...

An old fish in a new pond

Just went to look for it. You must not have posted it yet. I really look forward to seeing it. I love those big in the wall aquariums! :)

    Inherited Husband's reef tank.

The LFS would be a great way to know if my tests were right! Thanks. I thought the diatoms were from stirring up the sand. I hope it's not the water. I did start buying it just in case my filter wasn't good enough. Thanks for the idea and encouragement. (Now I gotta find another...

    Very discuraged new reefer...

I like to start new projects from stratch and 'relearn' them. The first time around I usually go with what the pros say is the right way for a novice. Each time beyond that I try more 'my own way'. I am always a novice gaining experience. :) It can be exciting to relearn a hobby. I like...

    Inherited Husband's reef tank.

I can't find that level thingy-bob my husband used to check salinity. I thought once the salinity was right that it stayed right. (The salt stayed in the tank.) I will have to go out and buy one as I can't find his. I can tell you the rest of the testing looks right to me. No phosphate or...

    Introduction

Love your name! My husband was in IT (Banking) and had his own god complex and mathematical mind. :) Have fun building your new system! :)

    Inherited Husband's reef tank.

Actually, I didn't move the fish to another tank. (That was another poster's idea.) I'm afraid of killing my dragonette. We use to just sit and watch her dance for us. I don't want to stress her out and kill her trying to get her out of the tank (she's not an easy catch). We were told...

    Decorating the tank

It just dawned on me he bought the shells for his red scarlet crabs. If you want some extra ordinary shells to crush or just to show off your pretty ones... I have a box of extra boring ones. :)
