    Help me out here

Refractometers are great as long as they are calibrated using a solution! As others have said, get a test kit or take some of your water to the fish store to be tested before you do anything else.

    Help me out here

At the very least, pick up an API test kit that has the basics, Ammonia, Nitrate, Nitriate, and pH: Aquarium Water Testing: Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Saltwater Master Liquid Test Kit When you can afford it, you can add others such as the Alk, Mag, Calc, Phosphates. What do you use to test...

    powder blue tang

I agree these guys are probably better left in the reef. I've wanted one for a while as well but the more research I do the more trouble they seem to be.

    Strange worm?

I have no idea, but very cool zoas!!

What do YOU feed your corals?

I feed reef chili from BRS once a week!

What type of lighting to go with

I would definitely stay away from Power Compacts - they're just older technology now. T5 and LED would be a good option for you. If you can afford the initial purchase, I would go with LED. You'll use a bit less power (although not a ton) but you won't have to replace the lights like you would...

Would this work for a sump?

After doing a bunch of quick research myself, it looks like having the return in the middle would be ideal, as you can have lower flow in the fuge but higher in the skimmer. I may have to rethink my plans....

Would this work for a sump?

I'm looking to upgrade my mini 10 gallon sump on my 125 gallon. They way I built my stand back in the day with a center brace means I can't fit a tank with a width more than 32 inches down below. Would it be okay to have two 20 gallon tanks as part of the sump as pictured below? Do you see any...

    Zoa? Ever going to grow?

At night, you should see lots of feeder tentacles coming out from the center of each of the favia eyes. Once a week I feed mine reef chili by squriting a bit of it over the tentacles. The food sticks to them and they pull it in. I have seen a bit of growth with mine, but is is very, very slow.

    Power Backup

I have a battery backup that automatically kicks on to power a single powerhead. My backups beyond that incude connecting to the neighbors (they're on a different grid) or running an inverter from my car long enough to heat the tank. I would also wrap the tank in blankets to reduce heat loss.

    Very cloudy water

Definitely invest in RODI water. You will only have troubles using tap water. For example, where I live, my tap water reads about 700 ppm of TDS (Basically junk in the water). After I filter it through RODI it reads 0 ppm.

    Very cloudy water

I'd turn the powerheads off and let the tank sit for a while. It might take a day or two, but it will clear up!

Opting out is probably the best call. They'll live at reef temps for a while, but their lifespan will be drastically reduced. There's plenty of other gobies out there that will be much happier in your tank!

Good luck! While they are beautiful fish, they will require water between 60 and 70 degrees. I'd love to have a small nano with a few of these in. As my basement is always 68 degrees, I think it would work.

    coraline algae help

I've also noticed that high flow areas always have more coraline growing. Try pointing a powerhead at a rock for a few weeks and you will see increased growth on the rock.
