For sure you need an ATO.. I was loosing about 2gal a day in the summer and it was becoming quite a task to fill it up every day.

no that is the refugium the return chamber is an "L" shape

yes the water flows from the left to the right

drain is on the left side with the skimmer, the split is to the refuge, it has a ball valve to control how much flow so it can be slower then that of the sump itself. the majority of the water flows through the left side.. i will get a top shot to better explain

No looking to get sand, i have just dumping a whole lot of money into this and want to take it one step at a time. trying to smooth at as many bumps as possible. How many pounds of sand should i need? 48" X 24"
