I think we will see very high quality LED fixtures in the $150-$200 range next year.

Re: I think we will see very high quality LED fixtures in the $150-$200 range next ye combination of the type of LEDs, quality of the build, color combos, and likely with a built-in controller and sleek look

    metal halide = led

what size tank? what kind of metal halide light are you replacing? are you a DIY'er? or do you need to buy a premade fixture?

Re: I think we will see very high quality LED fixtures in the $150-$200 range next ye I'm pretty hopeful that prices will continue to drop quickly, but I'm not holding my breath for $150-$200 for a fancy fixture any time soon :P Yes, prices are going to continue to drop, but they're not...

    LED Driver (NCP3066)

yup, but if they are in series they will all have the same current; and I was measuring voltage across on a 'control' LED (same LED that never got switched out) which got lower and lower each time I added another LED. the 0.5 ohm resistor is effectively in series with the LEDs, it is the only...

    LED Driver (NCP3066)

true, the problem is each time the voltage does not increase proportionally to the number of LEDs, with each new LED the voltage goes up ~2.5V, but the voltage per LED goes down and down; the voltage is "relatively" constant, i.e. it goes from ~3.2V for 7 LEDs, to 3.0V for 12 LEDs, but the...

    LED Driver (NCP3066)

So, here is my new "constant current" setup (basically a clone of DWZM's setup here): I have tried the above using between 7 through 13 LEDs. What happens is this: (V1 = voltage across 1 ohm resistor; Vled = voltage across LEDs) 7 LEDs: V1 = 106mV, Vled = 23V 8 LEDs: V1 = 85.6mV, Vled =...

    LED Driver (NCP3066)

yeah I saw that, but that video is literally a person just reading the entire datasheet for the driver device so I didn't make a schematic for my new setup, but Im basically using more circuit protection, more caps, and using an inductor between Ipk and common collector seems to be working...

    LED Driver (NCP3066)

Shouldn't matter in theory, but they are misc chips I just wanted to run with 100mA or so. Each one is around 3.0V @ 100mA, so around 30ohms per LED. I'll post more info tonight, but I setup the driver in a different SMPS setup (now its in a boost setup) and seems to have more promising...

Adding Live Rock to a cycling tank

it is a hitchhiker anemone; can be a pest toward corals and fish so it is typically a good idea to get rid of them if you can

    LED Driver (NCP3066)

So I have a "working" setup using a constant current driver NCP3066 in the circuit as follows: When I toggle the on/off switch, the LEDs will toggle, but when I replace the two LEDs in series with one LED or three series LEDs, the circuit still works for the most part, but with severely...

Could I keep a Leopard toby puffer in a 20 gallon

will he be alone or with another fish? I would say avoid it if possible, obviously, as it would cause him undue stress, but if he has that space for himself he should be okay for a few months

Would a lobster kill a clown

Im thinking of putting a lobster in my refugium all by his lonesome, and the refugium will be on its night cycle while the real world and the display tank are on day cycle so I may catch a glimpse of him here and there :) but like little_fish said, he very well may kill pretty much anything...

Would a lobster kill a clown

yeah, if it gets hungry I could definitely see that happening

    Fire shrimp molting alot

probably means it is running out of space in its current shell frequently, i.e. it's growing rapidly not 100% on this, but could also be attributed to re-growing a limb

    Fire shrimp dying.

probably not any 100% safe way but it may survive if it has the perfect place to hide for however many days it needs to recover from the process with readily available food also in its safe place, but it will be vulnerable at some point and the crab or any other predator may take advantage of it
