    Seeding Rock

You might be surprised as to how much of a cycle you get with dead rock, the is typically enough detritus and organic material to decay to get a cycle. A fee pounds of live rock will seed with the required bacteria and cool critters to get you going just go extra slow with stocking the tank.

    Proper Water Flow

No so much a vortex, think of your tank as a square barrel. You want the water to move from low in the back, up the front glass and then moving from front to back across the top. That should be your main current. If you have additional sources that randomly displace the main current that's...

    Proper Water Flow

They best way to have your flow is called a gyre, its a rotational type of flow. In my experience you want the water to come at the overflow. A wave maker is just another way to get water movement but it doesnt Move the water in a typical fashion. I wouldn't consider it towards your change...

    Just starting out

Hey guys, these two are a couple of my best friends. Take good care of them for me? From what they have told me they are interested in a reef set up and would like to keep a flame angelfish. They have a 55g non-reef ready tank but we all know how hard it is to aquascape in these narrow tanks...

Anyone with a large tank considering the Jebo WP-40?

My rule of thumb when I was still actively in the hobby was to avoid cheap knock off shit like the plague. Sure you might save a few bucks initially but when it fails(it will) will you be lucky enough that it just stops working? Will it kill your system? Will it start a fire? Will it kill the...

    Coralline algae under black light

Sorry for the typo in the last sentence the was should've been wasn't. It did make for a cool photo, looks a lot like the lumenbrite led actinic/moonlights if you enjoy the look. I've stepped away from the hobby for a year or so but they are cool if they are still available.

    Coralline algae under black light

I'm not sure if you know or not but black lights are very unhealthy for corals and anemones. They are different from actinics and put out a lot of UV rays that can and will bleach/kill them. I'm sure that your short duration exposure was detrimental but I'd keep it to a minimum.

Majestic Angel and Naso Tang Adult Size

If you are going to leave the Naso off the list you will have room for a few more smaller fish or maybe a pair of butterflys. Nasos poop like a beagle, they're big nasty fish that play hell on a bioload.

Majestic Angel and Naso Tang Adult Size

Both of those fish will get large, very close to what you stated, as will the sailfin. With the fish you have you could get away with them but IMO you would be pretty close to your maximum bioload. Welcome to the site, you're going to love it here.

    trading down

So I sold my empty 120 rimless to an upstart LFS owner today. He is setting it up as his main display in his new shop. He knew that I had been contemplating either getting out completely or downsizing to a more manageable system and offered to trade for a smaller setup or a nano. I had...
