    Gorgonian lovers out there?

Ah, makes sense. Most of the dudes I work for get these great gorgeous Gorgonians that shrivel up and look like poop within a week. I tell them not to get certain things, and Gorgonians are one of them, then they go get them anyway, bungholes.

Questions on equipment for Soon to Be in Existance Tank!

You probably aren't getting a lot of responses because everything looks great :D With the skimmer pump, just put a ball valve on the input and play around with it. I like to turn the pump down really low with a lot of airflow so I get a real dry gunky skim, but most people suggest a dark...

    Gorgonian lovers out there?

Never had any luck with Gorgonians, aren't they like deep water species that don't like light?

    Biff's 90 Gallon Downgrade

Aw man I didn't know about this whole story with your (now ex) Biff. Getting rid of a well established tank sucks butt, and I wish I could give you a hand, but obviously that's not possible. I had to sell my 90g to a guy whose tanks I take care of, and I was seriously upset when I was moving...

    Easy question

Your typical aquarium will be made with height as its main attribute for the sake of being a "display tank". A breeder tank is made with the intention of practicality. The vast majority of fish swim horizontally without realizing they have lateral space to use. A breeder tank is far more...

Needing help identifying red things all over the sand and rock

I fought these things for a very long time while working at a pet store for a few years. It's really just one of those things you want to get rid of in one foul swoop. If you just have your maroon clown, just do yourself a favor and give the clown his own small tank and get rid of these things...

    lighting question

For the most part, yes. The OP of this thread is new and just trying to get an understanding of lighting. The easier-to-keep corals would thrive under a bluer light and it would bring out their sexy colors anyway. So long story short, use a quality bulb with a higher color temperature.

Needing help identifying red things all over the sand and rock

+1 littlefish They're a huge PITA species of flatworm typically called Planaria. They aren't parasitic or anything, but they multiply to the point where they smother everything in a tank they inhabit. If this tank is new and doesn't have any life in it yet use Flatworm Exit and double the...

    Do Not Buy A.P.I. !

Just want to chime in on a similar subject, not trying to hijack the thread. One of my LFSs was out of Salifert NO3 test kits for awhile and I went through two Elos NO3 kits worth of tests. Both these kits would read a .5ish NO3 ppm at minimum even if I would test a clearly 0 nitrate tank. I had...

    Great start for sure.

a quick question i forgot to ask. may be important

You can get by without a skimmer as long as you keep the bioload to an absolute minimum and are very adamant about water changes, just be very careful with it. Also, converting HoB power filters into little refugiums is a kind of fun and interesting way to utilize a HoB.

    lighting question

I feel like light quality and spectrum are getting a little bit confused here. Homer is partially correct, ideal color temp for GROWTH and only GROWTH is around 5,700k - 5,900k for SPS and other shallow water corals. The idea being that you want to emulate nature as closely as possible. However...

    enticing tangs to eat

Have you tried different types of algae sheets? My tangs always went nuts over the purple stuff, some didn't like the plain green though.

    Is this normal?

That's uhhh, strange to say the least. Are you sure it's a bristle worm? Could you get a pic?

Coming back to the forums in my spare time!

Thanks Biff and littlefish! Happy to see you're still super active on here Biff. 41k posts, jeez. The more I creep around the site, the more I want to start something up again. Ugh, it's a curse I guess.
