    Tankedchemist -- pico contest

Here's my February update. Cyano is SLOOOOWLY starting to disappear... now that I have properly filtered water. Surprisingly, the scallop is still alive and thriving. I credit Reef Chili. FTS George is Curious George and the pom pom I did add some more cerith snail this weekend, and some...

Dechlorinated tap water or RO water

Filter Direct Online Store (C) Best. Purchase. Ever. I've worked with a lot of water purification systems, both in the hobby and in my line of work. The one I linked above is by far the best value in terms of money, effort setting up and maintaining, and efficiency making clean water.

When to Replace Chemi-Pure Elite and Purigen

I'm not sure about the chemi-pure, but purigen says to recharge it when it goes from white to brown. You recharge it by soaking it in bleach water. There were instructions on the box I got ages ago, so you might look for that.

    Alkalinity Question

Glad you took your water to the LFS for testing... for future reference, I've never seen dKH lower than 5 (with salinity being at 1.025), and that was in a tank that hadn't had a water change in MONTHS, and had coralline on every surface. So... yeah. Even tap water is harder (ie, has more...

    Red Turf Algae and Nitrates

How can you tell red turf algae and cyano apart? I've never heard of RTA before.

    Ph Swings

Fish is right, the volumes are so different... also there's a whole lot more photosynthesis in the display than in the fuge. Remember that these pH swings are happening relatively gradually. You have problems when they're very drastic and very fast-- ie, putting in a bunch of those pH up/down...

    Tankedchemist -- pico contest

lol well, thanks. I got it for free when I bought a bunch of stuff at an LFS sale. I didn't know at the time that they don't usually do well in an aquarium. I have to feed the tank a lot to ensure he scallop gets anything. Had him since mid-november, though, so seems to be okay. I guess.

    Kid's pico contest

yeah. I found a hydor that looks like a normal heater (tall cylinder), and seems to be doing a decent job. The tetra is a good heater but I don't think you can choose what temp to put it at, whereas the hydor has the thermostat on it.

Little Fish's Tiny Tank of Awesome

nice new additions.... sorry about all the problems. :( I'm still battling cyano, so at least you're past that stage? :) if you want to train your pom pom to come out with lights on, I used reef chili. I feed it the same time for a few days, just a tiny amount, and the pom pom comes out to...

    Aquavitro Salinity

agreed. It's the same latching system that is used in small scale industrial chemicals that absorb water from the air-- much better at keeping moisture out than the pop-top kinds.
