Help with hairy toadstool leather coral, please

Thanks for the info. We gave it another iodine bath which didn't make any change. We decided to remove it from the tank before it started to degrade and negatively affect anything else in the tank. We disected it and found the covering was so thick that it would have been impossible for it to...

Help with hairy toadstool leather coral, please

The other corals we have (bubble coral, 2 brain corals, frogspawn, 2 featherdusters, 2 mushroom ricordeas) all are doing well. Yes, this one we did get from a new place but I saw that it was there for at least a few weeks and was doing well. We gave it an iodine dip and hope this helps but we...

Help with hairy toadstool leather coral, please

We purchased a toadstool coral about 3 weeks ago. It did fine for about 3 days and then it covered itself over with a white mucus (which I understood as part of the shedding process) probably because it was moved into a new environment. Since then (now going on 12 days), it looks like the...

    Cowry snail

Thanks to all for your responses. We researched it and found out that Jenner's cowry is, in fact, a coral predator so we were fortunate that our LFS took him back. Better safe than sorry. Hope he gets a good home.

    Cowry snail

Actually our LFS sold it to us but she thought it was just a snail...I guess this my first lesson as a newbee...make sure we know what we're putting in our tank. I'm hoping we can find out if this species of snail is harmless or harmful and I hope someone can provide us with the info. Thanks...

    Cowry snail

We're trying to figure this out. We bought what we thought was just a reef-safe snail but the LFS person who sold it to us...I find out now....doesn't know anything and thought it was just another snail. yikes...! We're trying to find out if we should get it out of the tank. It's relatively...

    What to do if anything...

We started a new tank about 3 1/2 weeks ago. All test parameters are within normal ranges. We started getting green algae on the glass and also the sand. Previously, the stuff on the sand was brown. Coraline is beginning to grow on the live rock. Should we vacuum up the algae and scape it...

    Octopus BH-1000 protein skimmer

Could anyone who has this skimmer tell me what the blue sponge (packed in the reaction chamber) is for? The illustration only shows one sponge (black) that sits in the return chamber. Is the blue sponge needed? Much thanks! Granny in DE

    Help for Granny

Granny here, again. Sorry, forgot to mention that we would like on HOB skimmer. Although I'm sure most of you would recommend a sump, I have enough trouble cleaning up after my husband so I'd like to keep it as simple as possible. Much thanks.

    Help for Granny

Hi, This granny is in need of some help in setting up our 40 gal. tank so I elicit some of your expert advice. We plan to have 5-6 fish with some soft corals and live rock...not an elaborate setup but something to keep the grandkids entertained all the same. I would like your advice of what...
