    The ultimate substrate....

oh.....all my harvesting is done within regs and am very selective and low impact as can be......usually clear up hundreds of metres of fishing line wrapped around the bombies whilst i'm at it......bloody line fisherman :(

    The ultimate substrate....

Good advice from all, and taken onboard, the more things that go wrong with this tank the better, (best way to learn) hence why there's no fish in it and won't be until its a proven system... I'm really more interested in the chemical side of things as opposed to the inhabitants, they will be...

    The ultimate substrate....

Cheers JML and CM, advice taken..... Righto, finally the tides were right for water collection.... Here it is..... 45g of water (from the ocean) Water footprint (surface area): 444cm2 1.5 inch deep med grain sand (from the beach at the end of the street) I know that for the next 1 - 2...

    The ultimate substrate....

Hi all, I've taken the bait hook, line and sinker, more than you could ever imagine and I've decided my ad hoc aquarium keeping needs to be shut down and restarted from scratch.. I've a new tank and it's all clean and scrubbed and I'm ready to go.... Will plan on just running seawater for the...

    Tank Drama?

Once the sun comes up I'll take some pics.... I'm happy with it now that the flake has been removed and I can see all the glass... No cracks, and its very solid glass construction...

    Tank Drama?

Disregard the last, the last, the chip peeled off like a big clam and there is actually no crack in the glass....filled to the brim and given a good hard tap....All good! On the back deck anyway...!

    Tank Drama?

Disregard the last, after thinking more deeply about it....too much pressure over entire "plate" for such a small fix......may have to get a glassy to look at it!

    Tank Drama?

Hi all, I've just scored a behemoth of a tank and there is a small suspect chip right in one of the bottom corners. It holds water fine but I'm just a little bit worried. Whats the protocol for fixing this? Possibly put a folded, half-cubed, perspex inner over the entire bottom corner and...

    Snail and a Lobster

G'day Sankhamg, nice to meet another island dweller.... I've gotta laugh....I reckon half these people have probably not even seen an ocean...:) I don't think they can comprehend that some of us have tropical reefs less than 200m from our front doors.....and everything....yes...

    Food requirements?

Yes, live herring, whiting, bristle worms, little crabs, unidentified shrimp & worms....all dived for/cast netted from the beach/reef.

    Food requirements?

Literally everything (EVERYTHING) that is in, and has been in my tank, plus released, has come from, and gone to: the reef at the end of my street. It would be more trouble/hassle for me, for it not to. Adding introduced species into an alien ecosystem is not a responsible thing to do. W.

    Food requirements?

Cool, Basically, my shop is the tropical reef (Lat.19S) at the end of my street, and all the bombies I dive on for crays and trout/jacks have all the standard flash reef fishy's and crustaceans / invertebrates on em' I've kept fish before (moray eel/lion-fish/epaulette shark) but just for a...

    Food requirements?

Thanks, I've heard that from someone else as well - will take the advice! The 2 shrimp are a given, that's all I really want in my tank, i just thought a fish to go with them would be cool, any recommendations? Can procure pretty much whatever I want very easily and very free. Soap fish...

    Food requirements?

Hi all, Was thinking of getting 2 x Banded coral cleaner shrimp and 1 x small Copperband butterfly. Apart from letting a little bit of aptasia loose in the tank, can i also use nori for fish food? will this be a reasonable starting point for food requirements.... W.
