    Blue Throat Triggerfish update

Well - I drove 90 minutes to pickup one on Saturday- He's a beauty, about 3.5 inches, super blue throat with striking yellow fins and tail. Cost= $79.99 with local 10% discount for being a member of the local reef club- so basically no tax, shipping. He is looking good so far- although no eating...

    Blue Throat Triggerfish update

Ya- very nervous about it- but no real choice if I want this fish. Maybe waiting until it warms up would be prudent. NO locals have this fish ( found only a female)- maybe I will ask to special order a male and then see what they would charge. I would certainly pay more for it= $100 locally. But...

    Blue Throat Triggerfish update

Yep - going to take the plunge- saltwater.com has one for $59.99. Hopefully, it will be healthy- the best I can doing locally is 89.99 and it is a female. Other websites either don't have one or are even more expensive with shipping.

    Blue Throat Triggerfish update

I am thinking about getting one of these fish - thanks for posting SoccerPro as I was not aware Bluethroats were jumpers. I will have to make sure my back canopy screens are perfect before purchasing one of these. Any other comments/experiences about this fish would be great. I have a mixed 90...

    brown algae

Ok - Zooplex = organic nutrients= good for inverts, etc. but, without proper waste management ( skimming, water changes, filter feeders) those organics will definitely stimulate algae growth. So, Target feed those animals that you think require the Zooplex food and use the least amount possible...

    brown algae

Ok - not a newer tank or a "normal cycle". Doesn't sound like your overfeeding, but the Zooplex ( not familiar with it) - if a dead product ( frozen, powers, etc.) may produce algae. Hmm. I agree the water temp could be a factor. How old are you bulbs (old bulbs shift to the red which reportedly...

    brown algae

remember the phosphate test we have dose not "see" organic phosphates. So, you probably have a lot of organics in the tank feeding the type of breakout you have. Diatoms, or algae - doesn't matter. How old is you tank- might be a "normal " cycle and you have to pull it off by hand , make sure...

    "Squid" Wave Maker

I have used the 3/4 inch SQWD for years with good success. They do fail after a year or so, BUT for the price it is a good way of creating alternative currents in a tank. I use mine on the return pump from the sump. IT definitely reduces flow- so use a more powerfull pump than you originally...

    48'' lighting

What type of corals are you going to keep - That will determine what type of lights you need. If just softies /mushrooms then PC's will work. If sps /lps/clams then you need better lights= T5 ho, Metals halides. VHO will work on most LPS and some low light SPS if put high in the tank = closer...

    new guy

PIC's huh?? I do have them but posting them is another story- I am reasonably "challenged " in the computer/tech areas. I have begun a "Photoshop" area, but haven't spent the time to finish downloading my digital pic to it and to figure out what to do next. Being a small business owner (...

    new guy

Hello- just taking the time to say "hello" . Have been on Reef central, and other sites for years, but expanding my horizons so I am new to this site. Have been into aquariums for most my life , but switched to salt about 15 years ago and a coral reef setup about 3 years ago. Current system(s)...
