    my first frag!

thanks, I just googled it! Mushrooms are apparently one of the easiest ones.

    my first frag!

Thanks! My plan is to leave the largest and smallest ones alone, but once the medium one is completely healed and has had some time to grow, I am going to split it again.

    yay! I'm a coral reefer!

nice! they look like they're in good shape and once they are all settled they will be fine. It usually takes a day or so for ours to relax and open up. Think of all the stress they went through being pulled from their tank, bagged, and then placed in your tank. I would want a rest too!

    Help on my clown...

just getting a damsel is not going to solve the problem. Maybe try taking your water in to your LFS and letting them test it to see if maybe there's something your'e missing, or maybe one of your tests isn't working.

    Success Rate?

okay let's just say that a success is a fish that lives until the end of a fairly normal lifespan or is still alive now. If it died before you think it should have or there was illness or accident = fail. If it died because it was old = success.

    Success Rate?

Good question.... I guess it's open to interpretation but I mostly meant in the short term, like maybe a year? I know there are different lifespans for different fish etc. etc. and lots of other factors.

    Success Rate?

So I feel like I am failing as a fish keeper... we only have a 57% success rate so far with our saltwater fish. ( I wish I could keep them the way I keep guppies... I actually have too many of the darn things!) anyway, I just wanted to see how everyone else is doing. We have been patient with...

    my first frag!

Well here they are several weeks later! The largest is the one that I cut the 2 small pieces off of. It has made a full recovery and is quite a bit bigger than when we got it. There is a little one over on the left side that I didn't think was going to make it because I wasn't sure if I...

    Foxface vs. Powerhead

well I guess if I was going out and got to pick... pretty sure I'd go with vodka! Yote, I have to guess that's exactly what happened... his mouth was the most messed up of anything. there was some green algae on the powerhead that he may have been going for. kyle, apparently my cat is to...

    Foxface vs. Powerhead

Well we were giving him at least until we got home from church today to see signs of improvement before we started discussing putting him down, but he died sometime while we were gone. It's so strange though because if he was sick he didn't show anything at all. I looked closely at him...

    Foxface vs. Powerhead

yeah he did but I don't think he's going to be around much longer.

    Foxface vs. Powerhead

the one that he was stuck on did have the concentrator on the front but I don't know what you mean by a guard, maybe they're the same thing? It's so wierd, he was in the qt all night and when I came in I was sure he was dead... there is a koralia nano in the qt and guess what... he was up...

    Foxface vs. Powerhead

yes he's upright and breathing seems pretty normal. We moved him to the qt and the chromis are being acclimated to the dt. I think our biggest worry is that he may starve... his mouth is totally jacked up.

    Foxface vs. Powerhead

by the way yote, I have to thank you because you are always the first to respond to our fish emergencies!

    Foxface vs. Powerhead

that's what I was thinking of doing... the risk of the chromis having something seems less of a risk than leaving him in there.

    Foxface vs. Powerhead

Well we just haven't had much luck so far with our fish. Tonight I get home and our foxface was stuck on the Koralia... I was pretty sure he was dead so I shut off the flow to get him off of it and HOLY CRAP he is alive... he swam away like it was no big deal... but basically his left fin is...

    Lobster care

did anyone see the episode of the simpsons where homer buys a lobster to cook? The big ones were too expensive so he buys a little one and decides to keep it while he fattens it up. THen he gets attached to it and it becomes a family pet, pinchy! haha sorry I don't have any real advice...

    adding more LS

I've never done it before so I'm sure someone more experienced will have an answer. But in the meantime, I do have a degree in microbiology, and the first thing that I thought was that you don't want to smother all of the aerobic bacteria that are in the top layers of your sand by just throwing...
