I looked into the scorpionfish and asked my LFS about them a little more and this is basically what I got, 1. They arent really active fish, they more or less just hang out in/on the rocks until feeding time when they come out to eat, and 2. my LFS does not get them in all that often.
I know...
You cant exactly "make" your corals grow... some corals grow VERY slow
A few things that promote growth are:
1. Good powerful lighting
2. Good water flow in the tank
3. Good water quality (low ammonia, nitrates, phosphates, etc.)
4. Positioning in the tank (placement so coral received...
undy is out, i was just wondering... so what other options do i have?
1. Dwarf/Radiata lion
2. Puffer of some kind (smaller species)
3. Angel/Dwarf angel of some kind....??
4. ....
Anything else? Any other options for tank mates with a snowflake eel are welcome... I'll probably only have 1...
what about puffers?? i really like that they can develop a real personality w/ the owner but i know they are "nippy"... would this be a problem with the eel?
EDIT: I know that Undulate Trigs can be MEAN mofos... but if i remember correctly ive seen people successfully keep them with tank mates...
So its been a while since I've been on here... or had time for anything over the summer. (thanks to the tons and tons of MCAT studying I've had to do, its SUPER fun :frustrat:) Anyway, I digress... my tank is one of the things that have really taken a hit from the lack of maintenance... so...
are you planning on adding macro algae to it? (plug in Biff's cheato here)
if you do, you'll need a light for it, i just use an old desk lamp for my light (my fuge is in my sump though, but thats irrelevant) and my macro grown like crazy and definitely helps with with phosphates and nitrates...
are you talking about my flat top stove scraper? if so, it was like $11 i think... its just a flat razor blade with a piece of plastic it clips into for a handle...
i dont QT and its a mistake, but im pretty good friends with the owner at my LFS, i only talk to him when buying fish because hes honest (to me at least) about fish that he thinks look a little "off"... otherwise i definitely recommend a QT tank... introducing a bad case of ick will start a...
I also use a mag float for superficial stuff but my glass gets taken over by coraline pretty quick, back glass is basically purple... and i use one of those razors used to clean flat top stoves, dont know the name, but it works great.
I agree with the lighting thing... i have my birds nest as high as possible in my tank, like an inch under the water surface, and it does well and always fully open. Its also in pretty strong current.
Oh, and I also have t5s.... 3 of them, it was 4 but one of the ballasts went out due to the...
2 heads to 12 in a few months?! im jealous... my frag is has 3 heads and ive had it for about a month now and no new heads in sight. The 3 heads did get much larger and they are fully open every day... i even feed it like once or twice a week and still nothing.
i have a bunch of zoas and some rics and ive had my skimmer running 24/7 since the first day i got it...
oh and you CAN spot feed your rics... i do it every once in a while in hopes they will grow/split faster
just give them some time, they'll get used to the new tank soon enough...
if you notice them breathing hard, not swimming evenly, not eating, gasping at the water surface, etc, then you have something to worry about.
