    Asterina STar !!!!

My dad bought one of these from a LFS...they actually charged him for it. I wasn't there to stop it from happening. After he broke down his tank he gave me all his rock, so that one star fish found his way into my tank. After 2 years I started seeing a few here and there. One night I...

Please teach me a little about anenomes

So now that I'm putting together my first large tank, with adequate lighting(cebu sun by hamilton), I realized I've really taken a liking to my clownfish. I picked up two ORA Black Snowflake clowns, and there's nothing I'd like to see more than them diving into a healthy nem. But I know very...

    Possible I'll skip a cycle?

Working extra to scramble some money together for this tank so I just got a chance to dump some shrimp in there last night. How long should it take for ammonia to be visible on a test kit? Just wondering when I should start testing and when it'd be considered clear if I didn't see any...

    Possible I'll skip a cycle?

Rechecked today. Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0. I still have to acquire a skimmer and figure out a way to mount my lights. But I think it didnt cycle. Ill check again in a week or so when my stuff comes in the mail. Weird though isn't it?

Help! Something is wrong with my Anemone

How much water are you changing out? Not sure if it'd be better or worse in your circumstance..but when my nitrates were elevated I'd do daily water changes...maybe doing it twice a week or three times a week would keep your water cleaner...you'd just have to make sure salinity was exact and...

    Skimmer suggestions/recommendations?

I'm looking real seriously at the RLSS R8-i right now. It has really good reviews from everyone that's owned one.

    In tank refugium

I don't anymore. I didn't have a seperate pump for it but I had it next to a large powerhead, figure it got some water movement there. I removed it because it was an eyesore. If I didnt' have a HOB skimmer already or had more room in the back, I'd have used a HOB refugium and been done with...

    Skimmer suggestions/recommendations?

There are so many options and I really don't know where to start. I liked the EM300 but can't find it in stock anywhere. The SWC200 extreme looked great at first, but then I started reading reviews about the noise factor. There are the SROs too... I have a 150g tank with a 30g sump. I...

Skimmer rated for 180g for around 400$

Ok. Scratch the zeovit system. It's going to take up way too much real estate. So I have an 11x12 area to contain a skimmer, slightly bigger may work as the refugium is suspended above the bottom area. So there's more base room. I'm looking at the EM300 by aquamaxx and the SRO2000-3000...

    Possible I'll skip a cycle?

    Possible I'll skip a cycle?

Thanks Dennis that makes perfect sense. How long do you think I should wait and should I start with CuC as is usual? I'm in no real hurry, I was just expecting it to be awhile.

    Possible I'll skip a cycle?

I still have equipment on order and I have some problem shooting to do so I won't be filling it even if it was done cycling for another week or two. But I am very curious. Skipped a cycle on a 50g to this 47g move the exact same way. So I know it's possible. This rock work was just in pretty...

Skimmer rated for 180g for around 400$

The skimmer with this tank right now has a broken pump. Rather than find a new pump, I think I'd like to take this time to get something a little better. Total volume will be 180g. And I plan on running a fuge(only 5 gallons). I have a strong feeling it'll have a high bioload. I'd really...

    Possible I'll skip a cycle?

Moved a 150g to my house Monday. Had it fully running by Tuesday. The rocks were out of water for about 15-20 hrs. I also scrubbed the hell out of them Tuesday morning. Prior to this the tank had been cured and running for about a year or two. The sand is all new as is the water. Checked my...

    Eel help

People do have eel tanks. I had a snowflake that was a terror too. He went back to the LFS for credit though. I think I remember someone on here saying you can only have one eel per tank though as they'll eat others.

    Algae scrubber vs Skimmer

Did any of you guys run the upward flow system? That looks like less splash, but with the bubbles it's got to be just as bad with the salt creep. If that system works, It's small enough and easy enough to work with that I could run it in the sump with a skimmer.
