    SPS Extension

Thanks for the info, I have always wondered when ppl talk about that how much I should look for. I am having a heck of a time getting my red monti to be happy in my tank. I moved it all over the place (gradually) and the edges are still turning white. My blue monti is happy and my other sps are...

    SPS Extension

Very true, I should have been more specific. I don't know the scientific names b/c the LFS I got them from didn't have them labeled. I know I have two different color montipora (red and green), stylo, and a birds nest. I can post pictures if that would help.

    SPS Extension

Hey guys, I just got some new SPS and I have often wondered what "good" polyp extension really is. I see some photos that look like 1-2" of extension, but the photo doesn't give you an idea of how large the coral actually is. Is good extension measured by inches or is it 1/4" 1/8"?

    Quarantine Questions

I am in the process of quarantining a desjardinnia tang and two fire fish. They have been in the qt for about 2 weeks (total recall anyone??) and the tang had a white spot on this top fin that looked like loose skin. It has she'd this mark and is healthy now. This was about 5 days ago we notice...

Green Bubble Tip Anemone won't turn green!!!

I was sold a bill of goods about white anemones about 2 years ago. I had one that was almost 8" across and under good lighting is now the size of a nickel. He is strong and filming back slowly now. Has fully restored the zoox and is slowly growing. I would recommend feedings and look at higher...

    Worried about my candy cane

Interesting...I have had it for two years and it hasn't really grown up as much as it has out. It was one head and now it is four. Very full and nice color. It opens every night. Just worried about the holes in the stem. Maybe it's nothing.

    Worried about my candy cane

Nice... If you blow up the first photo the stem looks like something is eating it. Reminds me of termites or ants eating wood

    Worried about my candy cane

Hey guys, I was doing some tank maintenance and I noticed the stem of the candy cane looks very strange...I haven't noticed this before, but it looks like something is eating it? I have not noticed it looking unhappy, and I applied pressure to the base and it is still very stable...just strange...

    Tear down

Although that method might work for some, and I would definitely try that before doing what I am doing, it didn't work for me. No matter how much putty I used they just sprang up around the edges.

    led lighting brightness info needed

That fixture uses higher wattage LEDs but no real control other than an on and off switch. I have no experience with bridge luxe LEDs so I can't say for sure, but it should be ok? Lower light corals would be Xenia, certain mushrooms, button polyps, etc.

You might be ok running two of them. I would not feel comfortable recommending them for higher intensity corals like SPS. The shallower tank might do just fine tho.

    Tear down

The first set of rocks are "reincarnated" and cycling now. The bleach bath totally killed the hydroids, wiped from the face of the earth. The acid bath did a beautiful job further cleaning and ensuring they will never come back. Some of my rocks are two to three times more porous from it now...

    led lighting brightness info needed

I spent a lot of time researching LEDs to replace my MH setup. The things I looked for were the LED brand (Cree is best), controllability, and the LED wattage. I can't vouch for the fixtures you linked to above, but I am worried that their power level indicates they are 1watt LEDs, 3w would be...

What are you trying to accomplish? Just light the water or grow corals?

    Sick Anemone

I have kept a lot of anemones...not always successful. I bought a bleached bta that was 8" around open and within weeks it shrunk to 1" and has slowly regained its color over the last 2 years. So they can be hardy with the right conditions. What kind of lighting and flow do you have? I echo the...
