    Dying Brain coral

check your salinity. about 6 months ago I mine dropped off to 1.022 and my lps in general started looking sad. very low alkalinity(lower than 7 dkh or so) could have an effect on it too

How Can I get Phosphates Down?

test the water coming right out of the reactor, it should be significantly lower than the water in the tank, if this is true then its working, if not, change the media what test kit are you using to test with? be careful when lowering the po4 too fast when you have corals, most corals would...

No corals, what do I need?

IMO most corals, including sps, like having at least a trace of phosphates and nitrates, this means po4 of .02(most test kits dont go this low, but some do) or so, and NO3 of 2 or so. I saw this in the rew red sea line and decided to give this a shot. it took me a little to try to figure out how...

    WC needed??

your salinity seems a little low. most people keep their tanks salinity at 33 to 35 ppm. but thats not a huge difference and shouldnt hurt anything.

    A little clean up help?

reefs2go.com is a good site to use to order a clean up crew. If these are for your 90 gal, I would get more than 6-8. I would aim for 1 clean up member per gallon, that may seem like a lot but different snails tend to clean up different things. I would do 10 nerites, 10 astreas, 10 ceriths, 20...

please help me auto top off questions

no nano, you just run a T off the outlet of the rodi and have its own quarter turn valve on it. the problem with running the ato straight off of the rodi unit is that when the unit turns on you get a burst of higher tds water than normal and when you add it the fact that it wont run but a few...

    spineless urchin

in the pictures above the left is a black spine urchin and the right is a tuxedo urchin. The tuxedo will never grow longer spines. You can always tell when a tuxedo is healthy when is carrying things around on its back. The black spine will lose its spines when it is severely stressed. High...

Black Leopard Wrasse - for BL1

I have a melanurus and I no longer have a cleaner shrimp. They lived together for 6 months or so... then one day literally right after I fed the tank he went after the shrimp and ate him tail first. neat to watch...but what an expensive meal.

    Tabling Acropora

I have quite a few acropora species. including a red planet which is a tabling acro. all in all, when I dosed weekly and had t5s, the growth out of my sps was nowhere near what I get now with 250w MHs and a calcium reactor. so i would say you NEED to find a way to keep your cal, alk and mag...

Can 250watt MH's hurt Mother Torch Coral

well make sure you dont have copper in your water or anything, make sure the torch isnt too high in the tank, the 250s will make it bleach and die if exposed to high and too fast.

    I have a 110G deep tank

well the guys from marinedepot are sales people and they will try to sell you the most expensive fixture they have which they pretty much led you to. I would go with an 8 or 10 bulb t5 fixture or a 2X250 watt MH fixture. you need to decide on what kind of corals you want to keep then that...

    I have a 110G deep tank

I love tall tanks, I think they look great. as far as lighting goes. the power compact lighting wont do a whole lot for depth. and just adding the 2 t5s wont add a whole lot. if you want to keep softies, zoas and non photosynthetic corals then you may be alright. but sps and lps are pretty much...

    Montipora / Acropora under T5?

they have deepwater acros that may do well in your lighting. I had some in my tank when I had t5's and they survived but did not thrive. I have since upgraded to MH and they took off. But I am a bit confused, 50/50 lights are power compacts and t5s dont come in 50/50s. though they do come in...

What to Use as a RO/DI Water Container?

if you are just trying to do a water change with it. Mix it is a brute trash can in the room with the tank. The rodi will pump water pretty far with that booster pump. the tubing for that is pretty cheap. those wheels will easily handle 250 lbs of weight. now pushing it, on those wheels, up a...

    flame scallop

I have tried one and so have many others. They dont seem to live long in our tanks. Mine lived about 5 months and then died. Other people have had more success. I would say feed it often like every other day or so if not everyday.

    Phosphate

I wouldnt feed flake at all. its not natural and it just causes water quality issues.

    ID this monti?

I actually have a larger colony of that piece about 3 by 2 inches. The more nutrients you have in your water the browner the base becomes and the less nutrients the yellower it is. the polyps are either purple or blue depending on the lighting. My cousins are blue while mine are purple.

    Picture of the day.

I have an idea, for us people who like to know how in the world people get the effects and awesome shots out of cameras. We can give the settings used to shoot the picture as well. If you know of course. Im still trying to grasp the full manual photography.
