How often should I change my UV bulbs? Specs says the bulb is good for 12,000 hours (500 days) but I have heard that it is not effective that long. Thanks.

Hi, thanks for the response, he is the alpha-angel for sure, no one picks on him at all, he is the largest angel in the tank. He chases a smaller navarchus angel sometimes. He eats like a pig and is pretty beefy. I feed good, frozen foods - Emerald Entree, Angel & Butterfly, Marine Cuisine...

My Emprorer has the same thing, but not as bad, at the same color change stage. How did yours end up?

A good Ultraviolet filter system works well to control many micro-parasites like Ich.

My middle-aged Emporer Angel is almost all the way through his color change and has developed some small pale white-ish blotches on his skin. Definitely not ich. Any ideas?

What about the Nitrate, Dart?

Yes, it is built into the house that I bought. I cleaned it out very well and put all new gravel etc. into it so am hoping there's no copper - but thanks for the tip.

Update - last night he looked OK and did eat a piece of shrimp. This morning he looks a little "saggy" and looks a little off. I have 411 watts of actinic and 411 watts of 10K white for lighting. Nitrates this morning were 10ppm. I think that's too high, right? I'll be doing another water...

No - two "returns" from the pumps, but they exit from the bottom of the tank and point to the surface at an angle, so don't add much to the flow of the tank.
