    how much light?

Even though the fixture has individual reflectors??? I have been told that with t5's with individual reflectors that the old watts per gallon rule gets thrown out because they penetrated the water so much better.... Obviously I'm new and could easily be wrong. But needing 1215 would put me at...

    how much light?

I'm setting up a 135 gallon tank (72"w x 18"d x 24"t) and I'm not sure what I want to keep as far as livestock goes, but I would like to have the option to keep what ever I want. With that in mind would two 48" 216w t5's with individual reflectors be sufficient or could I get away with just...

    Building a sump

Hey I was wondering if anyone out there has made a sump out of two tanks.... I am thinking about building two sumps out of two 29 gallon tanks and connecting the two with bulkheads. I've looked around trying to find pics of a setup like this but have struck out so far. I was thinking that tank...

drilling overflows, placement of said overflows and sump questions

As far as placement goes, I have seen some set ups that run front to back in the tank and others that run side to side. Any advantages or disadvantages as far as placement? In my thinking (which can be scary) I am inclined to think side to side would be better as I think you might get sloshing...

drilling overflows, placement of said overflows and sump questions

I've been looking at designs here and there for a closed loop system and want to run this past everyone. 2" bulkhead drilled in the center part of the tank to feed a 1500 gph pump, which will run to a SCWD unit then to something like this for the return lines PbH2ORet this way i can change flow...

drilling overflows, placement of said overflows and sump questions

Would you place the returns at the top, middle or bottom of the tank? How would you set up which direction they shoot water? I have been looking for designs on the web without much luck.

drilling overflows, placement of said overflows and sump questions

RC So from what I can tell on your drawing there is about 8 holes. Are those 50/50 draw and return or would it be 2 draw holes and and 6 returns?

drilling overflows, placement of said overflows and sump questions

Yeah, that's ALOT of holes! I'm not sure if my nerves can handle that many holes.

drilling overflows, placement of said overflows and sump questions

Closed loop system = more reading and studying. My brain is starting to hurt from all this lol. While we are on the subject of sumps and flow I have yet another question. Aside from cleaning the pump and filter and keeping pipes from being blocked, what and how do I need to set this up so...

drilling overflows, placement of said overflows and sump questions

I found a 135 gallon for the dirt on craigslist to replace my current 135 that has bad glass but like my current tank, it is not drilled for an overflow. I was originally going to use a siphon overflow box but everyone has told me to drill it instead and the more I read about the siphon...

    help a noob out

Crimedotte? No sh*t? Small world lol. I used to have to make deliveries in that area. I'm not sure if Quindaro was ever decent, but it's REALLY rough now. The places I had to deliver to were Mexican meatmarkets and they always paid in cash. Nothing like rolling around the dotte with 2...

    help a noob out

Yeah that's why I'm having my buddy do it. If I did it I'm sure I would turn the basement into a 400,000 gallon aquarium and have to call the coast guard. I actually remodel homes and do all the work myself, but I HATE plumbing. Kinda works out great when your best friend is a plumber lol

removing buff scratches in 160 gallon???

Well it didn't cost me much, it was another craigslist find, I got the tank, stand, berlin triple pass skimmer, 15 watt sterilizer, a 30 long with stand and a 29 with stand for $250. Hopefully the 125 I'm going to look at tonight is in better shape :-)

    help a noob out

Good to know, thank you for the info. I'm going to have my buddy (union plumber) come over and test my psi tomorrow. I found one on craigslist for 50 bucks and I think he'll install it for me for a 12 pack. :-)

    help a noob out

Ok, now for the really stupid noob question. How does the RODI work? I understand the basic concept, but what does it mean when they say 50 gallons a day? Is this something you leave on with a float switch and let it fill up a tank?

Got another question. Do I HAVE to have a RODI unit or can I get by with dechlorinated tap water?

yeah sorry about that knucklehead, I was in another forum site and was talking to a guy named saltee lol. I tried to correct it but you caught me before I could :-) Thanks for the advice.

    help a noob out

Knucklehead, So wet the newspaper with saltwater and wrap the rock? That definitely sounds easier and less messy than transporting a trash can full of water lol. And it would keep me out of the dog house with the wife, I can only imagine what she would have to say if I sloshed saltwater all...

    help a noob out

Yeah me too because I'm pretty sure the glass I have in the 125 is shot. Nothing has gotten it clean. I even took one of the lids to the glass shop today and they tried to buff it with cerium oxide and it wouldn't come out. If I have to make do with it I will, but as much money as I've dumped...
