    Cherub Angel

We walked out of the house today set on buying a fish since we've been adding nothing but corals for months. Adding to one clown and a foxface is this little guy! He's only about an inch and a half long but has a nice bright color. And a random shot of a hermit in the sun corals.

    Bicolor angelfish

Exactly HOW "with caution"? 50/50 shot like most angelfish or more prone to nipping? Stuff it full of food every day will decrease chances yadda yadda yadda I know that part. For being a relatively cheap fish with a bright splash of color, just wondering what individual experiences...

    Another Lighting question.

So stupid question, for a while I was apparently under the impression we had T5's. We don't, I'm an idiot and we have PCs :P. 2 64W Actinics and 2 64W 10K daylights. Tank is a 55g; dimensions are 48"L x 13"W x 20"H. Enough to keep softies and most LPS, yes? What about Montis, Cups, or...

    Coral ideas?

Seems like every time we buy a new coral, it looks so much better at the store. We get it home and it looks blah and brown under our lighting. They're all healthy and happy but look a little drab. Current corals: Zoas Green Star Polyps Green Mushrooms Frogspawn Huge colony of Palys...

    Clear Flatworms

I have them. From a brief google search I come up with multiple websites saying the clear ones are harmless and its just the red ones you have to worry about. They're really neat actually... Any input or differing opinions?

    Limpet?

Came home from work and saw this guy sitting on top of the rock spitting his baby making juice into the water. Not a very clear photo but he started to take off the second we found the camera. Edit: doubting the limpet guess a bit. Pictures that I see don't show really what I was looking at...

    Bacterial Infection?

One of our clownfish isn't looking too hot. Just a few days after the Bannerfish's death, the clown looks... well dusty. He's breathing hard and his fins are also looking frayed. (I'll see if I can't get a pic when the lights come on) Seemed fine two days ago. I didn't see him yesterday because...

    Tang Police Needed

Before I get arrested, can any tangs be kept in a 55g? 48" long so it has 4 ft of swimming room that Biff mentioned in another recent post. Yellow and Kole tangs are what I've heard suggested but they are rated on Liveaquaria as 100g and 70g respectively, but it's been my experience that...

    Nassarius Snails

Picked up about 15 of these guys today. Good gracious these guys are FAST! Most of them stay down in the sand but there's a couple that are just booking it over the glass.

    Bannerfish

Never really posted pics of the now-not-so-new additions when I picked them up. Better late than never! Most recent additions being the Foxface and the Bannerfish. A shot of the whole gang as well. The urchin wearing a bubble algae. And my poor nipped Zoas.

    Substrate Cleaning

For my FW tanks in the past I've always used siphon vacuums like these (though the one I have now is larger). For the aragonite sand however, it BLOWS. The suction just doesn't seem to be good enough to get anything OUT of the tank. Is there a trick I'm missing? I'd still like to be able...

    Algae Sheets

Between the Foxface and the Bannerfish, they can and will mow down an average sized algae sheet on a clip in a few hours. Is there a limit as to how much of this stuff I should be putting in? Or how often? The sheets I put in now are about 3" square. As of right now I put it on a clip about...

    Silly skimmate questions...

How thick should it be or how much water? How much should be produced daily? How dark should it be? Read one article that said it should be producing about "one cup of dark skimmate per day." Ours isn't producing that much, but moving the cup makes it watery and I guess I was under the...

    Frogspawn.

We have this terrible habit of driving to different fish stores we've never been to that are a good ways away just to see what they have. Drove about 1 1/2 hours to another one today and came home with this guy! Question, should I stick his "foot" (for lack of a better word; you can see it in...

    HOB Fuge

I have an old filter that I've read about turning into a HOB refugium for growing pods and nitrate reduction. Guy at the LFS says an old HOB filter (about the size for a 60 gal tank) in my 55g won't really do much for the nitrates but will still be excellent for growing pods. True/False...

    Last time I impulse buy...

Earlier this week we stopped by a not-so-local FS just to browse around. Ended up taking home a few corals and I saw they had some Bannerfishes. Came home and read on them and found that they were not reef safe (awww. :( ), and after a bit more, found the second species that IS reef safe (yay!)...

    Black and White Butterflies

I've read that there are two varieties of the Bannerfish, one being reef safe and the other not. Other than that I haven't found much in the way of telling them apart. Are they too similar to tell? Reef safe obviously meaning that one type won't make lunch out of the corals, are crustaceans...

    New Additions!

Picked up a few new additions at the LFS this week! Zoas/Duncans/Star Polyps, and also a foxface; now dubbed Hugo. He enjoys his reflection and the company of the clowns. Tough catching a pic of him without his pajamas on. Also, our mushrooms are HUGE! Didn't realize how much they've grown...

    Protein Skimmer Setup

Bought an Octopus BH-100F HOB protein skimmer today and good gracious is it giving us a headache to set up. Absolutely no real instructions at all! We seem to have gotten the siphon started but from the pictures we've looked up online to try to help us, it looks like we have an extra white tube...

    Macro Algae in DT

Currently, we do not have a sump/fuge/scrubber. I have come across the suggestion a couple times on the internet to add macro algae to the DT if you don't have the place for it anywhere else. Will it grow in a sand substrate? Will it grow out of control way too fast and take over the tank? Where...
