    Mike's 46 Gallon Bowfront Build

Hey Everyone! Quick bit of history: I was active a few years ago while keeping my 90 gallon FOWLR tank. It was my first tank and I had inherited it from a friend already established. I kept it active and thriving for about 2 years. After a catastrophic failure resulting in the death of...

    mikewurtz's Pico Contest

My official entry thread. Ordering tonight. I was informed by my better half that the prize doesn't justifiy the cost. My argument was, " But . . . but . . . " and somehow it worked. GAME ON!!!!!!

    Sandsifters

Some of you might remember that I was having problems with my Dragon Goby digging HUGE holes in my sandbed and causing avalanches. Well, now that I've found him a new home, my sandbed is looking pretty grim. Can anyone suggest a few decent sandsifting animals ( fish or inverts are fine )...

    Live Rock Question

Quick question: Before I set my live rock to cure I'll be scrubbing off dead matter with a tooth brush. During this process can my rock set in unsalted water for a few minutes or no?

    Dying (or dumb) clownfish

I noticed some odd behavior from my clown yesterday. He was laying on his side on the sand. Every 40 seconds or so he would get a burst of energy and swim a few inches upward, only to settle back down on the sand. Also, at night when the lights are off he seems to be just fine. After a lot of...

    The Hulk is Angry!!!

My emerald crab, who ( awesomely for this situation :) ) is named The Hulk, has DOUBLED IN SIZE almost overnight!! He shed his first exoskeleton today and is now effing huge. It's moments like this that remind me why I love SW tank keeping. The Hulk is ANGRY!!!!

12 Gallon FOWLR for My Dad

Wasn't sure where to put this, but since it has the potential to become a (small) build thread, I'll put it here. First, backstory: When I was a little boy my dad had a SW tank that I'm guessing, from memory, was about 75 gallons or so. Long story short, around 1986 my older brother ( he was...

    Fish Names

A friend of mine thought it was weird that I named my fish. How about you guys? Do your fish have names? If so, what are they? Here are mine: Cher (Yellow Tang) Dori (Yellow Bellied Blue Hippo Tang) Su-Ki (Hawaiian Flame Angel) Corky (Three Striped Damsel) Nemo...

    Growing on my LR

There are several organisms growing on my live rock and they seem to be multiplying. I can get a pic if necessary later tonight, but for now a short description: They are dime sized pink with a jelly like body with several white balls on the end of very short fine hairs. Any ideas?

    Possible emergency ?!??

Wasn't sure where to post this. .... I have a glass theremometer. Today I was cleaning my glass and bumped the theremometer and the tip broke. A bunch of black beads fell to the sand. I got out what I could but a few are buried in the sand. What are these things and will they hurt my tank?

    UV Sterilizer

I've been looking all over the web and I've found conflicting information on how often you should run your UV sterilizer. I read articles claiming that the most effective way to use them is 24/7 operation. And, I also read that they work best when operated for 6-9 hours at a time. Can...
