Angels - Anyone have success with these in a SPS reef?

Wow.. I'm in the wrong business. Does anyone actually spend that on a fish? Anyone other than maybe Bill Gates?? The most expensive fish I had I think was a Sohol Tang. Had an Asfur Angel. A 9" black tang. Grew a baby french angel to about 9". All 'poor mans' fish compared to those...

Dual 175W Metal Halide Ballast and lamps

Thought maybe I'd add.. I'm in a NW suburb of Chicago.. about an hour south of the Illinois-Wisconsin border. If someone wants to pick it up, they can..

    Fish tank setup?

Well, for what it's worth.. I had a 180 gal. saltwater, fish only tank. No live rock. But dead corals.. beautiful pieces. I even had a gigantic (dead) tridacna gigas clam shell for a nice little 'cave'. Had ONE kind flat rock that provided a little cave for my eel. The dead corals looked...

Dual 175W Metal Halide Ballast and lamps

Hi everyone, I have a really nice dual 175W Metal Halide Ballast and lamps to place in a new home.. ;) It is from Energy Savers Unlimited and has maybe 100 hours on it. The bulbs average lifespan is 10,000 hours and I don't think I've heard of a ballast failure?? In any case, this all works...

    hospital tank

For what it's worth... My hospital tank was only 10 gallons. I did not concern myself with having a biological filter with it because.. if I had to treat with antibiotics or copper or whatever, it would likely destroy the filter. So... I watched the ammonia/nitrite levels and did a small...

we THINK our brand new tank is infested

All good advice.. just wanted to say I started the same way.. with two clowns.. in a 20 gal. tank. That turned into a 180 gal. tank with probably 15 - 20 fish plus an eel. Brace yourself! Good luck...

    nitrites levels

Oh yes.. I dreaded the day I had to add copper to my system.. :( As I knew it would kill off the 'good bacteria'.. then, any fish I had that wasn't sick, would soon get sick as I watched the ammonia and nitrite levels rise. Ah, the reasons for a hospital tank.. where you don't care about...

    whats wrong with my water

It's some sort of organic (a lot of help, I know)..but that's why your skimmer is going nuts. Now.. if your skimmer starts looking more 'normal' and the water is still like that, then I'd say there is a real mystery and would start testing like crazy.. and/or running the water through a diatom...

what causes nitrates in the water

It's been a while for me... Has anyone ever succeeded in having an anaerobic filter system for a saltwater fish only tank that consumes the nitrates and hence, completes the biological cycle and keeps the water clean??

    Moving Fish Tank

Nope. Sorry. don't think so. Trying to do so will likely damage the tank/stand, etc... there's never any easy way to do anything, is there? :frustrat:

    Ohh how it grows

Hey, I went from a small 20 gal saltwater tank with two 'starter' clown fish.. to... a 180 gal tank with several angels, butterflies, moorish idols, tangs, and a snowflake eel! Got 'cha beat... ;)

    Lighting for a 125G

That's an awful LOT of light. I think I'd do a smaller option.. 2 250W MH should do it I would think. I had a 180 gal setup with 2 175W MH's and it was PLENTY.

    lighting for a 320 gal

I think I'd go with the 2 250w and 1 400w in center. Tank is pretty long... ;) Congrats on your new setup!

    75 gallon tank.. help

Personally, I like metal halide's over any 'tube' or LED system. They shine like the sun and the bulbs last forever. What about a simple timer you buy at home depot? And plug any lighting system into it? Or am I missing some other feature you want?
