    28g JBJ issues

Ok, update time. The tank is now completely empty and dry, with the exception of the sump, which has maybe 1/4" of standing water in it, which is tap water from my cleanings. My wife and I were/am really bummed that we had to give up our 6 line and harlquin serpent star :( My method after...

    six line wrasse

Na, six lines are chill. Only get 1 per tank though, they will fight with each other.

    An easy question !!!

go to your LFS. They will probably test your water for free.

    28g JBJ issues

I have always used mixed saltwater from the lfs. not a single drop of tap has ever reached the tank. I did replace the bulbs about 3 months ago, and will replace it again in about 3 months. I will not be discouraged though. If keeping a reef was easy, everybody would be doing it. Thanks...

    28g JBJ issues

Yes, I mean live sand in a bag. The tank is still up and running with the old setup. I really don't want to use my LR as the reason I am starting over is to avoid the many problems my current setup has (aptasia, GHA, byropsis, bubble algae, caulerpa, other macros). I have no problem being...

    28g JBJ issues

Still in the planning stages of starting over. I think I want to start over using 100% dry rock (BRS reef saver or pukani), and using new live sand. Is this a good idea? Will the live sand seed the dry rock? Thanks.

    Tank Fails!!

Thanks RockStacker. Great point about killing before throwing away, as to try to not let local waters pick this stuff up.

    Tank Fails!!

I have a bad case of caulerpa as well. How did you solve this in the above tank? Did you just pull everything and start over?

    28g JBJ issues

Ok, I have a couple questions for clarification. 1) If I start removing rocks to scrub them in a bucket of sw, does this sw need to be from my tank, or can it be clean sw I would generally use for a WC? 2) If I start removing rocks to scrub, I will in essence need to remove all rocks. How...

    28g JBJ issues

ok, I will give that a go this weekend. As far as the corals, should I kiss them goodbye? Not sure if they will survive the scrubbing method, buy maybe they will, dunno.

    28g JBJ issues

So far, I have only manually removed as much as I can and have done WCs. I have also incresed my Mag to 1400. I have not yet gotten another powerhead. As you can see, I still have the corals, so I have not yet taken the rocks out and scrubbed them either. Not sure this is feasible as there...

    28g JBJ issues

Hey guys, Here are a couple pics of the tank as it currently stands. This is after a rather large pruning of both micro and macro algaes. What are your opinions? Should I start over, or is there hope for this setup? Thanks.

    where to buy?

I see you are in the Los Angeles area. Have you been to Vivid Aquarium? They are located in Woodland Hills, on Victory and Varial. They have a website too (vividaquarium.com) By far the best coral selection I have seen in the LA area. Not sure about their prices though.

    Is this over the limit?

I really don't buy the whole '1 inch per 10 gallon' rule. Really depends on the type of fish and what their requirements are and how much room they need to swim. I have a 28g, which means I can have one 2.8" fish, which is only 1 six line wrasse. Na, don't buy it for a second. On the...

    28g JBJ issues

Thanks guys. Not really sure if I will start over yet, just thinking about my possibilities at this point. Bummed about the idea of giving up Jimmy the 6 Line. He is the coolest fish I have (including the ~40 fish I have in my 80g freshie). If I decided to tear down and start over, I have...

    28g JBJ issues

Hi All, My 28g JBJ has been going for about a year now, and has slowly but surely developed several issues that are starting to overwhelm me. Inhabitants include a six line, 10 dwarf ceriths, 3 turbos, 2 astreas, 3 nass, 1 harlquin serpent star, fire shrimp. My issues are as follows: -...

    Aiptasia X dangerous to fish??

Don't really know myself, but I can share a bit of my experience. One time when I was using Aiptasia X on some aiptasias, as I was lowering the syringe into the tank, my diamond goby came up to it and started sucking on it like it was a bottle. 'No you idiot:shock::chair::zombie:' says I...

new shrimp died within hours dont know why

How was the little dude acclimated? Inverts are very sensitive and require a long acclimation. Generally what I do is float the bag for 15 min, then start drip acclimating for about 1.5 hours, dump the bag over a bucket with a net on top to catch the shrimp and quickly put in tank. Also...
