First SW tank, 29 Gallon BioCube Build

Fire Shrimp and Zoas are now in the tank! Almost all the polyps opened within 15 minutes of being in the tank and have remained open. The shrimp let the clownfish know where his territory is (clowns weren't sure they wanted to give up an inch of the tank.. but by this morning they've worked it...

I sent him an e-mail like a week ago and never heard back. Perhaps if I sent another it would go better?

First SW tank, 29 Gallon BioCube Build

So, set up the tank about 2 weeks ago... used around 20 pounds of live rock to start it with aragonite sand. Dosed the water with some powdered flake food (to get some ammonia in the water when it dissolved and broke down). Started testing the water a couple days later and it read: Ammonia - 0...

    clown swimming funny?

My clowns swim much "weirder" than any other fish I've owned. I'm new to saltwater, but they definitely "weave" and "bob" their way around the tank. Throw some cyclopeeze in there and watch it go nuts. A video would definitely help, I never get tired of watching mine swim around... it's just...

    1st SW fish (clownfish) tomorrow!

I sit on the couch to the left of the tank (left as if you were the tank), and the clownfish come up and swim by my elbow... for hours on end lol. They're still "afraid" when I open up the lid, but that'll go away

    OK to add another shrimp?

I'm not disagreeing... the post was about a possible incompatibility based on temperament of the shrimp and the type of cleaner you put it with.

    OK to add another shrimp?

I've read about some possible incompatibilities between cleaners and fire shrimp. Not suggesting you _will_ have that problem, just as a heads up.

    1st SW fish (clownfish) tomorrow!

So, I have the BioCube 29 and have read 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites and 10 nitrates for a little while. I got around 20 pounds of live rock that was well established from the LFS for initial set up, which I think helped the process. I also got the inTank media baskets and took out the BioBalls...

New to the site, pretty new to saltwater

If I got a mandarin (IF), and it ate frozen food... and I still couldn't keep it alive, I wouldn't buy another one for the same tank because I would know it was my fault and just not a good idea to keep repeating the mistake. So... about these leather corals... they seem to get silly big and...

New to the site, pretty new to saltwater

No worries, I have a thick skin and am wanting to learn more about everything. My inTank media baskets (including fuge) are coming in today, chaeto will be ordered today (hopefully). I want to discuss with the guy at the fish store more to see prices and everything. Apparently, the tank I...

New to the site, pretty new to saltwater

well that's exciting. What's the "best" way to obtain corals? My LFS has a decent selection it seems... are there members that frag their's out at better prices or does shipping costs make it not as good? I really like the look of some of the yellow leathers, but they get so big, I don't want...

:) I think clowns are happening Saturday morning :D And then I'll see if he has trained the mandarins to eat yet (with a couple of them there, I can just take the one eating frozen foods)
