    using a britta filter would be better than using tap water, but wont fully filter out the water as good as an R/O unit will.

    I used to have this same problem and its the worst! I got my red slime to finally go away by using chemi-pure elite, it removes phosphates and nitrates. And also you say that your phos. is at 0, but the red slime could still be growing off any extra nitrates you might have in the tank. get ur...

    oh ok ill just get all new sand, and the dottyback will be good in the 8 for a while then when it starts to grow i can give him to a friend. He seems to even be happy in the 3 gallon!

    The fish will get freaked out a bit, but its not to big a deal. The only thing you have to be careful of is fish jumping out of the tank. I had a firefish that jumped out on me at least five times!

    well im not sure what they are exactly without seeing them, but you do not need to feed them. They will just find things to eat on their own.

    I think you should definatly start off with a small sized tank because its cheapest, less maintnence, and if you mess up it easy to just start over.
