Chuck Fought The Ich . . .& The Ich Won

That's my new jingle. I'm now sure the scientists dont know exactly how this damn "parasite" (& I use the term loosely) actually lives. I 1.Quarantined in copper for 3 months with perfect unchanged copper levels - 2.Allowed the tank to run fallow for those same 3 months - 3.Fed nori, mysis...

    Fish hiding?

How long has your current tank been running with those same inhabitants? My 1st thoughts would be that the wrasse is hiding in the sand & thaat 1 chomis prolly killed the other. They tend to do that alot. If not, than it hiding. Also, your checkerboard is in need of a bigger tank. 100 gallons or...

My Yellow Wrasse has been hiding since I got him.

You should'nt worry, My Red Coris Wrasse did that same thing. I eventually came to the realization that A: The fish is from a different time zone & needed time to slowly adjust to my day/night schedule. B: The fish is still new & hides to keep their stress level down. C: If the fish is "wild...

    Help!!! Aiptasia outbreak

"Aiptasia X" & 3 more shrimp, The bigger the better b/c even the bigger shrimp will only eat the smaller aiptasias. Also, IME peppermint shrimp usually do their hunting at night when we're sleeping. If you wanna try to catch a glimpes at the shrimp....try shining a flashlight in the tank after...

    First Saltwater Aquarium

The rock should be good to go, but I strongly urge that you replace the sand. There's all kind of nasty stuff that has settled in that sand that may cause problems early in your tanks development. The alternative is to spend hours rinsing & re-rinsing that old sand. Other than that, I'd just set...

    14000k or 20000k

7500k & 10000k will achieve best growth rate. 14000,15000 & 20000k are primarily used to make the color on the corals stand out more. I use 14000k b/c it's right in the middle.

    PAR 38 LEDs from Lowe's

5000k would'nt cut it? I once read that ppl were growing corals under 7500k. I also read that coral growhouses use a lower k rate for better growth then place the corals under 15k or 20k to "Color Them Up" before shipping out for sell. Keep in mind that they will be there 6-8 weeks only before...

    PAR 38 LEDs from Lowe's

I'm setting up a qtank for incoming corals & was hoping to find some inexpensive lighting powerful enough to sustain SPS &/or Clams. I was considering 2 of these 18-Watt (90W) Daylight (5000K) PAR 38 LED Light Bulb (E)*-ECS 38 CW FL 120 at The Home Depot Does anyone know if this would be...

    help no lights!

I would'nt say permanent, but a slow death can begin along with infections. The zooxanthellae that live in the corals will begin to die from lack of light & they are partly responsible for feeding the coral. They also play a large role in providing those beautiful colors that we love. So after a...
