    Hey all...

As always check your parameters. If they are fine (test kits are a death trap) go back to the lfs and see if they have any sick fish that were housed with yours prior to purchase. Also how did you acclimate the fish before adding it to your tank. Most people just float the fish like you do...

    Bristle worm?

This is a heated topic. I have dozens of bristle worms in my tank. I personally believe the vast majority to be reef safe. Most people think the worm is responible for deaths in the tank. Usually because they are on the inhabitant eating the decaying matter. Thus the assumption is made they...

    HOww

Thats easier described than done. Tons of patience, good husbandry and tons of calcium. That is coraline algae. You can get scrapings from local fish stores, or fellow hobbyist. The later is normally the way to go. It is highly beneficial as it dosent allow other less desirable (pest) types...

    Phosphate

I would suggest getting a timer to put your lights on and checking nitrates. Algae loves light and leaving the lights on for extended periods will not help. You can put phosban anywhere with flow. A better way to fight algae is cutting out the source of the phosphates. Whether its from...

purple sea slug released yellow stuff.

When they die they release a very nasty toxin. Know from experience. Those I believe are eggs. I had one that did the same thing, but the discharge "disappeared". If there are meateaters in the tank they wont last. I have seen them do this at a local fish store.

    Getting rid of black stuff

Make sure you remove the dying cyano so it dosen't pollute the tank. Dying things are terrible for water chemistry. Water movement is the key to keep cyano down. Just my 2 cents. Tony

    Live Sand Question

Cleaning the canister filter is a must. They are well known nitrate producers and require weekly cleaning. I clean my pads weekly, I also run Denitrate, but replace it monthly. 6 months on a canister filter sounds a little odd. Sounds as if the DSB helped. My damsels went through stuff that...

    Live Sand Question

Damsels are a hardy bunch so they should survive. In case though, I always catch them when I feed. I leave the net in the water for about 15 or 20 minutes prior. Letting them get used to it. Then feed them and box them in a top corner. Fish traps might work but they have always been less...

    Live Sand Question

I put sand over my existing bed, and had the same "dust" problem. Though not hazardous to the fish, it will take a toll on filters and powerheads. I myself added only about 2lbs to my 55g a day. If you put the sand directly on the existing bed and cover it all you will kill anything that was...

    Protien Skimmers

I have the super skimmer on my 55g and it works great. No problems and produces ample amounts of skimmate. Also cheaper. A little small on a 55g though, but it works for me. Tony

    Light Configuration?

Some anemones, which was the reason for the ?. I also have some soft corals I will frag and put in the other tank. Anemones need lots of light, so I dont want to slowly starve them. Tony

    Light Configuration?

What the best configuration for power compacts. Going over my 55g. 48in with 4 bulbs. 2-50/50, 2-12000k, or 4-12000k. Just wondering before i order. Tony

    Bad nitrate test

Also make sure they test the right way. In total nitrate or do you have to use a formula to arrive at that. Each kit is different. Dont expect the nitrates to go to 0 overnight. It may take a little while as they come down with water changes, the denitrate (which I run 24/7) and good...

    Bad nitrate test

Somewhere, someone should get all the test companies together and slap them. I have a feeling I get as many wrong tests as right. I have multiple brands and they usually all say something different. Close but always different by some degree. Red Sea is what I was using when I had my old tank...

    super skimmer

I have the same skimmer and I get tremendous amounts of skimmate. I had the same mod with the small airpump. Always collected to much water. But every tank is different. If you have more pumps try different ones, maybe even better results. Tony

whats everyones advice on lace rock

Not as good a true live rock, and most is dug up. If so it might be covered in many other substances not suitable for marine use. Best bet is to put some in a bucket with saltwater and a powerhead. Then after it soaks for a while test for whatever you can. Or take it to the pet store and...
