    Mushroom Toxicity?

I was taking out red mushrooms from tank and I put them inside of a container in the sump so I could sell them later. A week later it looked like they dissolved and it smelled terrible. Do mushrooms release toxins or was it ammonia from them decaying? Some of my stuff did start taking a hit...

    Melon vs. Leopard

I already have a 5 inch Melanarus wrasse in my tank, but I also like the Leopard wrasses. Yes, I know they are "expert only", but how would my Melanarus react to one being introduced to my tank?

    Please Help

My Teninus acro frag has started to whiten around where its polyps are. The polyps toward the top have receded. It was on the sand bed receiving some flow and was also not getting stung by anything. I thought about an Alkalinity spike, but I only added about 10ml to my 130g system an entire week...

Diamond Watchman Goby and Tiger Watchman Goby

Every time I see a Tiger Goby, they always seem to just dig a big crater instead of sand-sifting. Does anyone seem to get that?

    heniocus question

So right. Its a shame all angels aren't reef safe, but then one might say that if that were the case then we would have overcollected them. I've heard that all the dwarf angels eventually turn rogue. A guy said he had a Coral Beauty for 4 years and it eventually started eating corals. Even the...

    Swallow Tail Anglefish and Co.

The tank is covered because of the other fish that I know would have jumped if it wasn't for my screen. Do you guys know about the care for Wantanabei Angels?

    heniocus question

You may have just saved my reef with that post about the flame angel. I was just at one of my LFSs and was considering getting a pair. The guy said he never had any trouble with any of them. On a side note, how is your experience with your Blue Jaw?

    Swallow Tail Anglefish and Co.

I was thinking of having an Angelfish in my tank. I think a lot of the dwarfs are pretty but after having a run in with my first Foxface I don't want to risk it. I was thinking of a Wantanabei, Lamarck, or Zebra. I was leaning toward the Watanabei because the male resembles a Sohal Tang and that...

    heniocus question

With having the fish side by side, even someone who's been in the hobby for years might have trouble. The Diphreutes are planktovorous so they won't touch coral. I wouldn't trust the fact that the fish is with zoas and star polyps because my foxface has its pick of all sorts of corals but he...

    eel in aquariums

If you get an eel, don't add another one afterwards. One person bought a snowflake eel from one of those containers with a few other snowflake eels in there. They liked it and came back a week later, and bought another snowflake from the same container. Sadly the eel that was already in the tank...

    Next Step in Corals

I was looking at an Aussie Table Top, a Montipora Cap, and a Bird's Nest coral to add to my reef. I already have other SPS so I was wondering where a next step should be. What do these other corals require to grow? Thanks.

    eel in aquariums

snowflake would be the easiest and probably least aggressive.

    Potter's Wrasse

One of my LFS has the regular leopard wrasses in their frag tank for about 2 months. These guys have trained mandarins to eat pellets so if anybody could get a potter's to eat it would be them.

    UV: What to Know

When most new aquarists find out about UV Sterilizers, they ask the LFS people if it really works. Often what is said is something like," It will kill about as much beneficial bacteria as the bad kind." What I learned is that most beneficial bacteria is on the surface of rocks, sand, and the...

    Zoa's Closed up???

Bump the water change to 20% every two weeks. There might also be detris or something else accumulating on them so try and GENTLY scrub them with a toothbrush.

    Scolymia Question ??

If you are talking about a sculy ( a single polyp LPS), don't move it off the sand bed, or very high. If the membrane has retreated from the outer edge, then it actually won't be easily repaired. A study in Coral Magazine showed that sculies are extremely sensitive to anything stinging them...

    Growing on live rock

That isn't cyano. Cyano is burgundy, red, and kind of rusty looking. What you have looks like a species of sponge. To get it out, take some tweezers and pull it off and throw it out. Most sponges don't impact your tank except sometimes making an eyesore. It actually is a sign of good water...

    And so it begins!

Just make sure your acro gets enough light and flow. The star polyps in the back will actually spread pretty rapidly after a bit. Zoas are also a good choice for a newer coral and come in a variety of colors.
