    Mushroom Toxicity?

I was taking out red mushrooms from tank and I put them inside of a container in the sump so I could sell them later. A week later it looked like they dissolved and it smelled terrible. Do mushrooms release toxins or was it ammonia from them decaying? Some of my stuff did start taking a hit...

    Melon vs. Leopard

I already have a 5 inch Melanarus wrasse in my tank, but I also like the Leopard wrasses. Yes, I know they are "expert only", but how would my Melanarus react to one being introduced to my tank?

    Please Help

My Teninus acro frag has started to whiten around where its polyps are. The polyps toward the top have receded. It was on the sand bed receiving some flow and was also not getting stung by anything. I thought about an Alkalinity spike, but I only added about 10ml to my 130g system an entire week...

    Swallow Tail Anglefish and Co.

I was thinking of having an Angelfish in my tank. I think a lot of the dwarfs are pretty but after having a run in with my first Foxface I don't want to risk it. I was thinking of a Wantanabei, Lamarck, or Zebra. I was leaning toward the Watanabei because the male resembles a Sohal Tang and that...

    Next Step in Corals

I was looking at an Aussie Table Top, a Montipora Cap, and a Bird's Nest coral to add to my reef. I already have other SPS so I was wondering where a next step should be. What do these other corals require to grow? Thanks.

    UV: What to Know

When most new aquarists find out about UV Sterilizers, they ask the LFS people if it really works. Often what is said is something like," It will kill about as much beneficial bacteria as the bad kind." What I learned is that most beneficial bacteria is on the surface of rocks, sand, and the...

    Potter's Wrasse

The Potter's Wrasse (Macropharyngodon geoffroyi) is a pretty cool looking fish, but on liveaquaria.com it says that it is expert only and requires to be fed five times a day. To me that seems a bit ridiculous, but you never now. In the wild most Anthias eat every 30 seconds, so it wouldn't be...

    Where to go from here...

I have a decent amount of fish in my aquarium, which is a 130g. I have 17 species with three tangs and a big foxface. I was thinking of adding a Longnose Hawkfish, a single Blue Chromis, three Bartlet's Anthias, or Blue-Eyed Cardinals. Any thoughts? Again it cannot be a tang, or anything big...

    Purple or Achilles Tang?

I want to get another tang, and its between the Achilles and the Purple. Mainly because my LFS just got his best shipment of Achilles in, they eat like pigs, they are small, and have been there for 3 weeks. One of my main reasons for wanting this fish went back to when my family and I went to...

    Decisions, decisions...

Hey guys my LFS has 2 dwarf angels I'm debating about. A Potter's and a Coral Beauty from the Maldives. These guys are good about taking care of their stuff and they've been in quarantine for 2 or more weeks. The shop is even run by a marine biologist so there isn't much doubt about the health...

    Schooling Fish

I so far have 4 clowns, a yellow tang, a yellow-bellied blue hippo, a naso, 2 purple fire fish, a royal gramma, two different species of wrasse(3inch), and 2 gobies in a135 gallon tank. I want to add a school of fish, either Black Axil Chromis or Resplendid Anthias. I know that getting schools...

    Too Many Sponges

I have a 135 gallon tank with all the types of corals in it but I'm now strating to have large sponges popping up eveywhere. I know they're supposed to be beneficial but they look kind of like mold. I want to get a fish (not a ludibranch) that will eat the sponges but not hurt anythig else.

New Naso and Yellow Belllied Hippo Tang

I just recently got two new fish. The Hippo is eating good, but the naso isnt eating, and his face colors are pretty dull. He is only 4-5 inches big, so I'm wondering if he isn't just in the process of changing from a juvenile into an adult. Any opinions would be great.

    Black Spots on Rock?

I have had a sustainable environment in a 135 gallon aquarium for about a month now, and today when I was making my regular observations, I noticed some black spots on the rocks. Now I have completed my cycle, the hermit crabs, snails, and Foxface are doing a good job eating the algae, and some...

One Spot Foxface vs. Yellow Tang???

I just got done filling my new tank today and was thinking about the fish. I personally have my heart set on a One Spot Foxface, but another person in my family likes the Yellow Tang. I personally like the parternization of the Foxface. I believe that the Foxface is more peaceful than the Yellow...

    Electronic Refractometers?

I just posted another thread labeled ,"Differentiating Salt Parameters," and I was having trouble. I want to know if my Milwaukee Electric Refractometer is the issue. I did calibrate it both times, and it did get good reviews on the web, but I would also like to know if Electric Refractometers...

    Differentiating salt parameters???

I'm currently mixing my Red Sea Coral Pro Salt (a.k.a. the only salt in the world that goes by weight instead of cups) and I when I mixed it in last night the ppt read 31 and the Specific Gravity read 1.022. However this morning ( when the pump wasn't running, it read 29 for the ppt, and 1.020...

Do I put a thin layer of sand under my rocks?

I want to know if I should put a thin layer of sand under my Pukani aquascape so that it won't scrape up the bottom of the tank. I know that if I add too much sand under the rocks it may have a tendency to be unstable, so I was thinking of only putting a centimeter. Is it a good idea or will it...

    Favia?

What do you guys think about Favia/Brain Corals? I am new to reef keeping but have done ALOT of research. Are they something I should stay away from for a little bit, or are they a little lenient. Obviously they won't be as easy as Mushroom corals, but I think they're in my capabibility range.
