2 Oscellaris Clowns, 1 Hippo Tang, 1 Yellow tang in a 12 Gallon Nano?!?

If you read the comments, he said that they were in the 12 gallon for about 5 months, then he moved them into a 300 gallon tank. Still totally irresponsible.

2 Oscellaris Clowns, 1 Hippo Tang, 1 Yellow tang in a 12 Gallon Nano?!?

That does indeed look like the size of a 12 gallon cube. And a poor sailfin tang too! Ugh. It's cruelty. Those poor fish have literally nowhere to go. It's awful. They won't live long.

    Refractometer and LED

Sorry to say, but I really don't think it matters (about the refractometer)! Close your eyes and point! Don't forget to get the calibration fluid too. :)

    Clean Up Crew

Adding too much CUC at once can cause some of them to starve to death. Only add a little at a time, as needed.

    New tank

Adding some rock into the filter is a good idea. If nothing else, it can provide some extra flow to your tank. It's handy to keep in case you have to run carbon or other media like ChemiPure once in a while.

    Frozen flat pack questions

You can get frozen foods at Petco and PetSmart for a decent price. Once you factor in shipping, I don't think you're getting that great of a deal ordering it online.

    Cloudy water

Everything looks normal in those pics. A little bit of white slimy build up is normal when you are making new water. I'm not sure what it is, but I've seen that with every tank I've had. And no harm has come of it.

A complete newbie who needs a way to start!

The word cyanobacteria literally means blue-green. But the cyanobacteria that we see in our tanks is a dark red/purple color.

    Kent Marine Reef Salt Mix

1/2 cup per gallon, but always test after letting it mix and make adjustments.

    Ph drop why?

pH normally fluctuates between day and night. It will be lowest first thing in the morning when you turn the lights on, and highest at the end of the day when you turn the lights out. This has to do with algae photosynthesizing and removing carbon dioxide from the water. In the absence of...

    hang on back overflow

I used a CPR overflox box for years, with an Aqualifter pump. Never had to replace the pump. Maybe I got lucky!

    My duncan, 7 months later

They are photosynthetic. They need light, but they will also eat meaty foods.

    Yucky stuff in between zoas

Sometimes white sponge will grow in between zoas polyps. But you shouldn't be able to blow off white sponge with a baster. RockStacker is right -- a picture will help.

    Starfish

I'm hesitant to call it an asterina, although it may well be. Asterinas can have any number of legs. But I've not seen one with those bulb-like things on the end of their legs.

I can't believe my LFS said that????

I think I read somewhere that the guys from Tanked only put all the livestock in for filming -- they don't actually set up the tank that way. They must take most of the fish out after they've got their shots. If so, that's pretty misleading to the public who don't know about the hobby, and I'd...

    Biocube 14 cycling help

The vast majority of corals do not need to be target fed. They won't die if they don't get meaty foods. They are photosynthetic. They get all they need from the light.
