75g system for sale in SE Michigan; Stand, tank, lights, everything for $400....

I have had my system for about three years and have been completely frustrated by an algae problem for about a year now. I've tried everything, have spent a lot of money and time, and I am no longer enjoying the hobby. On top of that, my responsibilities at work continue to grow and the...

Increasing Calcium and Alk using dosers

Thank you for all of the feedback. I appreciate the help. A few answers; I do water changes once a week; 4.5 gallons each time using "Reef Crystals" I have LED lights. I don't have the numbers on the thing, but when I purchased the fixture, it was apparently what I needed for corals...so...

Increasing Calcium and Alk using dosers

I've been in the hobby for about 8 months now and am beginning to add corals. I have struggled with these because it is difficult to keep my pH consistent (big swings at night from 8.25 to 8.10). Right now, my only corals are mushrooms, polyps, and one a piece of hammer coral (that is really...

    Let the journey begin.

Hey Barch, Nice looking set-up you've got started! I really like the slick RODI storage/salt-water set-up you've built behind the tank. I'm thinking of doing something similar and your switches gave me some ideas. I wish I could offer some advice on your cycle, but I'm not really an...

Carl's at Long Last 75g Tank

After a few years of a lingering fascination with saltwater tanks, I finally got a setup in July of 2012. With a lot of help from people on this board, the thing is looking good and a daily fascination. I thought I'd share some pictures; Here's the whole set-up. I went all out on the stand...

    Sick Clown

This damsel is the last added, so he/she gets bullied about by all of the tank mates. The female clown is the hardest on the damsel. The others mostly leave the damsel alone, but the clown still chases at times.

    Sick Clown

The smaller one was the sick one. He did not make it. I now have a single clown. I've read a lot about them needing to be in pairs. Can my single clown survive?

    Sick Clown

Thanks for the responses; I have been with the hobby for just over six months now. When I signed up for this account, I was very very very new. I have added the current residents very slowly over five months. The damsel was added two days ago, while the clown was not eating, but still looked...

It's got to be bad news...

I had one of these, then a few, and now a BUNCH! They are thriving in my return and a few in my sump. They don't move and seem harmless, but if I am getting this many, it must be bad news. Thanks for any help you can offer.

    Clean Up Crew Ready?

Thanks all for the help. This is an interesting hobby, and I enjoy the science aspect, but it is nice to have input from more experienced people. I really appreciate the help. I added a clean up crew last evening (my LFS calls them "janitorial staff") and they seem happy. They are cleaning...

    Clean Up Crew Ready?

Hey Reef Experts! I could use a little input on if I am ready for a clean up crew. Here's the situation... I am at day 13 of my tank cycle; 75 gallon Started with... RO/DI Water 80+lbs of Cured live rock (the LFS said it was curing in their tanks for at least two weeks) Live sand from...

Cycling New Tank with Cured Live Rock and Live Sand

I could use some input from some of the more experienced out there. Today is day 8 of my new aquarium cycle (with cured live rock and live sand) and I am not sure if I am sure of what to make of my testing results. This is what is going on; Ammonia: "Spiked" at 0.25 on day 2. Has been 0 since...

Cycling New Tank with Cured Live Rock and Live Sand

I added part of the shrimp yesterday afternoon and Ammonia and Nitrites remain at 0. Before placing the shrimp, my nitrates had shot up pretty high, but they are coming down. I think the drop in the nitrates is because of the Cheato in the refugium, right? Thanks again for all the help!

    Controller Question

I have done some research on tank controllers and am considering the purchase of a "ReefKeeper Elite Net" system. For me, the big draw would be the ability to run essential systems off of an "uninterrupted power supply" (UPS) during a power outage, but I am not certain how that would work...

Cycling New Tank with Cured Live Rock and Live Sand

Hello Reef Experts! Although I have had a long-term fascination with saltwater tanks, I only recently committed to getting a system. After a whole bunch of research, I was only more drawn to the idea of a coral tank as I now see the aquarium as a 75 gallon biology lab that presents a lot of...
