Wow, I guess that trying to give someone advice on forums is a no-no. There is nothing in my statement that is "not true." I don't understand why you guys decided that my method was "wrong" and you are right. Sorry but starting a system with cured rock is the best way to start a system. Sure...

right and i am telling you that is not the safest way to start a system, sure it may work just fine 99% of the time but why even take that risk?

    Mollies

Actually it is. What I guess I should have clarified is I meant CURED live rock. Start a tank with CURED live rock and some live sand from another system. You eliminate all die-off and the system will not even cycle though the ammonia stage. Maybe you will have a few nitrites but that is it...

Peppermint shrimp safe for all coral

Ummmm. No. They were pepps. Quite frankly pepps and camels look NOTHING alike.

My new love the Maxi Mini.

They can produce buds. One of mine has two little buds forming on it right now although it takes a long time for them to develop. You can cut them in half in an iodine bath. It is ill advised to cut them into more than just halves, as the success rate drops dramatically if you don't just cut...

oops.. my silver dollar sized anemone

Give your tank more time before adding things like anemones. Also mini-maxis don't need very much light and will often slip into the rocks or behind rocks. It may not like those MHs very much either. Try to coax it to attach at the bottom of your tank somewhere out of direct light. If you...

    Aquariums

Every coral in my tank was from another aquarium. I hope that more clarity in the industry and over sight at some point can help to have a better more sustainable industry that we can all feel better about. It is however as some pointed out, a tiny, tiny problem threatening to our oceans in the...

Changing from Reef to Fresh Water

I bred Discus for years. I would take the maintenance of a reef tank any day over Discus( and yes the discus tank got a 20% H2O change everyday! It was on a drip system that constantly dropped fresh H2O and changed 20% of the water over a 24 hour period) If you are having problems with algae...

    Mollies

Just put in live rock. Rotting food or shrimp can allow unwanted bacteria to start to grow as well as beneficial bacteria. Better just to put some live rock in there and let it happen naturally.

where can i get one of these?

US plastics and other companies make large PVC tubs. I used these as sumps and filters back when I had a saltwater business. Be prepared to drop some dough though, they are not cheap.

    Tang question..

Because tangs create quite a fierce pecking order. Unless you have a big enough system for quite a few of them then I would advise against it.

    Green Brittle Stars killers?

I wouldn't keep them with smaller inverts. The at some point or another will eat something you don't want them to.

Peppermint shrimp safe for all coral

Had a pair living in a reef until one day they decided to start ripping apart and eating my mini-maxi anemones. Got them out after a few hours and them totally eating a 2"-3" anemone. They have been residing in one of my refugiums since.
