Probably but I'll be running an open top so I don't think it would be in the way if they are a foot above the tank. Also while I have your attention on my current tank I'm running a sump, I was wanting to add some cheato and a small clip on refugium light to help mitigate any nitrates, along...

Ok I understand the peripheral costs of mh fixtures. I don't really care to spend the money for two ecotech radon fixtures but I have to suspend them a foot and a half above the tank from the ceiling or can I use those rods that you suspend them with will that give enough clearance?

I just read in the comments under a led fixture lots of complaints about non user friendly software for the ecotech fixture. The tank I'm getting is 72 gallons, 36-22-17 I think. I know it's 36" wide for sure.

I like LEDs but I really don't have a computer capable of setting them up and controlling and customizing them. Does anyone have experience or opinions of this metal halide fixture? AquaticLife HQI Metal Halide Fixtures with T5 HO and Lunar LEDs

    Lighting questions

Will it heat up the room noticeably? Would it be possible to attach it to a wooden canopy maybe using the suspension hardware? There are no fans but apparently the unit weighs almost forty pounds, so should I just run an open top w the fixture resting on the tank?

The xr30w, my biggest worry Is that I would need a second fixture instead of just running an 800 dollar halide fixture.

    Lighting questions

My 45 gallon tank is doing great, staying stable and my stock is thriving. The 6 bulb t5 will be fine for what I want to do, but I'm planning a 70-75 gallon build. My first conflict comes at lighting fixtures. I've heard differing opinions on LEDs and halides. I found a nice aquatic life 2x150...

Would it be good to go ahead and do that before nitrates creep up?

    First livestock

Yeah I'm going flame angel, dottybacks, reef safe wrasse, fire shrimp, and eventually a blue clam and anemone. Since I just added my first live stock do I need to do a 10 or 20% water change?

How bout one from the Lps/sps propagation tank at the store? They also said I could get one of their smaller blue tangs to bring back when he got big or move to a bigger tank if I do that.

    First livestock

So would a flame angel be better? I need to wait about a month before adding any more fish or corals right?

I haven't listed my other tank. It's a 45 gallon gonna be reef tank.

So I kinda broke parameters here but I started with my first live stock. Ammonia was at zero as well as nitrite for a few days. I tested nitrate and was getting low readings so I took some to the lfs to have it double checked. Everything looked good and he said I could start with a couple...
