How many fish is too many?

Yes over feeding provides a fuel for algae growth. The high nitrates are a good indicator. Weekly water changes should be good enough if you reduce some of the food you are putting in the tank.

How many fish is too many?

You are at your limit now and probably one fish over honestly. How often are you doing water changes? What are your parameters? Indirect sunlight can aid algae growth but I suspect it is more to do with how much nutrients you are putting in the water when feeding your fish.

    Jellyfish maybe?

Hydroid Jellyfish---generally they disappear on their own but you can suck them out with a turkey baster if you are worried about them. I have never had any problems with them doing any damage.

Hey Ian, I tried to do the arcade a while back and it didn't work. So I tried again this morning to get my Asteroid on but it still isn't working for me. Did you take it out of service?

    TBS - anyone tried?

It is a little bit more of hassle the way they do it but it is definitely worth it, IMO. When they send you the live rock package there is minimal if any die off. Good luck and show us some pics when you get back going!

    Crazy Clowns

Hi and welcome to Living Reefs! Sounds like your clowns found a host;) If they are eating good, looking good and acting somewhat like a clown then I wouldn't worry. They are fine without an anemone but they will find things like SpongeBob's house to host them. :)

Hi and welcome to Living Reefs! Monique has given you a lot of great advice. I'll reiterate some of that: read, read and then research even more anything you want to put in your tank. Your LFS doesn't always have the best interest of your tank in mind so you have a responsibility to know...

    Purple algae issue

Look up cyanobacteria. You have excess nitrates that it is feeding on. Usually, likes dead areas where food and detritus settles. Increasing your flow, diligent water changes and syphoning out all you can during water changes should help. You can also shorten your light cycle. If all of that...

Scooter Blenny Died, but WHY? - HELP!

Hi and welcome to Living Reefs! I am sorry for your loss. It could have been any of the things you mentioned in the post. Stress from getting bullied was probably a major contributor since it was getting confined to a certain area and couldn't eat as it should. It could of just been the fishes...

Ocellated Dragonet Is Hard To Keep

Good job! Getting them to eat the frozen foods goes a long way in keeping them healthy if you don't have enough of a copepod population to keep them fed.
