    Safe algae eaters?

I had a dozen margarita snails, half a dozen astreas, six bumblebees and three mexican turbo snails in my tank along with a couple of larger hermits, one blue and one orange neon knuckles, as the core of my original cleanup crew in my 40 gallon breeder. All of the algae-eating snails in the...

Best way to remove a fish?

Hi everyone, I'm wondering if there is an easier or safer way to remove a fish besides draining the water or having superhuman speed. I have a friend who is interested in the hobby and has set up a twenty gallon tank. As I've been helping him out, I was going to give him a Royal Gramma and...

    Ideal fish for Nano Tanks

Start from scratch is a bad way to look at it. You already have a quarantine tank, the most important thing to a new hobbyist! Here's the thing, just about every fish is territorial. I said a royal gramma or a fire fish could work in a nano tank, and that's generally true. But if you...

    Ideal fish for Nano Tanks

WHOA! whoa whoa whoa, I don't think anyone, myself included, was thinking you could have more than one fish in a 3 gallon tank. Fish establish territories, just about all of them. They will fight, one will die. And the water will be subject to so many random spikes in nitrates and salinity...

    Ideal fish for Nano Tanks

Royal Gramma could work. It stays relatively small, isn't particularly active. But it is a short list overall for nano tanks. A firefish could work for the same reason. Honestly though? I'd probably say a clown goby, maybe a peppermint shrimp or a couple snails, and call it a day with that.

    Starfish?

I have a tiger serpent sea star, it's dark brown with tan stripes going down its arms. It doesn't burrow, but its is nocturnal so it spends the day time underneath my live rock. Serpents are reef state, stay relatively small (arm to arm won't go much over 1', but the body doesn't get big at...

    Sump and Skimmer help!

Lol I don't know why, that's why I asked. However, Since I have some extra money on the way, I have decided to just upgrade from the odyssea to a better model anyways.

    Tank revival!

Lol yeah. Well I think the best thing to do is to rehome the aggressive animals. My Coral Banded Shrimp and Blood Red Hawk are en route to my friend's house with a much bigger tank that will be better for them. Sooooooo one more time: 40 gallon breeder PEACEFUL COMMUNITY TANK. 2x...

    Tank revival!

The ongoing saga lol. I bought a royal gramma to add as the fourth fish…hawk went after it while still in the bag, so he will be going back >.> This falls on me, I thought I was buying a carribean hawkfish, that would stay relatively small, instead it was a blood red hawkfish, which gets...

    Tank revival!

Very true. But basically I'm thinking of just 3 fish total, a mated pair of clowns and the hawk. The ocellaris are very fun, but I worry that as they all grow the hawk will look at them as things to be bullied. A Blood red hawk and two tomato clowns though seem like a good fit, similar size...

    Tank revival!

A follow up: I could just stick to three fish, I have no issue with that. But the ocellaris are so small that I may consider trading them for a larger mated pair. Tomatos, Clarkii, Maroons, etc. Are any of these species too big for a 40g breeder?

    Tank revival!

I feel like 70g for all dwarf angels is a generalization. I realize some like Flames are very active, but some I rarely see darting around as much, like Yellows. Wrasses are great fish, so I certainly don't feel like I'm settling for something I don't like. My only other idea would be either...

    Sump and Skimmer help!

At the risk of asking a silly question: what are the purpose of the baffles in a sump separating it into chambers?

    Tank revival!

So, if you've read the last couple of threads you would know that things have not been great in my tank. I'm using this entire weekend to upgrade equipment, add a sump, and get my hardware to the best point I can possibly afford. My question here is hopefully my last stocking question. This...

    Sump and Skimmer help!

So…my protein skimmer impeller is not working. I can do a couple extra water changes and let the live rock/sand handle it for now, but this issue will need to be addressed quickly. Can I simply buy a new impeller, or do I need to get an entirely new skimmer? Second question is that, assuming...

    What's the next fish??

Just to play devil's advocate in case you haven't purchased those damsels yet, a hawkfish could be a really cool addition. A long nose, spotted, or arc eye would grow to a decent size. My old arc eye would even swim to the top of the tank knowing I was the main source of food. Don't know what...

    Feeding a Lion Fish

There's a brand of frozen food I use with the Brand name Rod's Fish Food, it includes a predator blend that includes larger pieces of different fish, mollusks and crustaceans for larger animals, including lionfish. I had to get my old arc eye hawkfish to adjust, so I just added frozen food with...

    So….that's bad

Long nose hawkfish look very nice. So that's my plan. I will trade the shrimp to that individual for coral, and look to buy a hawkfish, or something else perhaps, with a big discount. In bittersweet news, I also just received an email today from my preferred LFS that they will be closing...

    So….that's bad

inch per gallon rules are bad ideas, regardless of the ratio. I love lion fish, I would not keep 2, hell even one, in a twenty gallon tank. I understand that mistakes were made, but I am not posting to be insulted. If you believe my stock is the issue, that's fine. I would like a fourth...

    So….that's bad

My tank just got annihilated. One week ago, I had three chromis, one neon goby, one algae blenny, two clowns, and a six line wrasse in a 40 gallon tank. Today, I have two clowns and a six line wrasse. I am not terribly upset, since the three remaining are my favorite fish, but I have no idea...
