Is it a good idea to run your protien skimmer 24/7? If not,can you please tell me what would be an ideal amont of time to run it. It's just that I've heard that you can overskim your tank......

nope. you should be skimming it constantly. You can over skim your tank but, that's usually from running a skimmer that waaay too big for your tank.

It's possible to overskim, but it doesn't usually happen. I once tried this theory and only ran my skimmer over night, but I didn't really see a difference. Softies and some lps's like some nutrients in the water, so if you're trying to really please them, then you could try it for awhile and see...but if you have sps's, then I wouldn't recommend doing it.

i skim 24/7, i wet skim enough that my top off water has some salt in it to replace the salt thats removed from the wet skimming,saves me from large water changes every 2 weeks
