250 watt metal halide question

i have a few extra 250 watt metal halide ballasts and i was wondering if one would be good over a 29 gallon bow front tank? i have searched and some people say they use them over theirs, but i was wondering if any one has tried it. i have a big fan on it to blow hot air out of the hood.

thats alotta light, but i think you could do it, just put the light like 2 feet above the canopy.
