40 gallon stocking help

Reefing newb
I'm hooking a 40 gallon tank up into an established 55 reef and wanted to make it a predator/non reef tank. Was thinking of a snow flake eel, and a lion or a puffer. I really would like two fish that look bada$$ and wont out grow the tank. Don't care if they are herbivores or carnivores. In the pic my water in the reef tank will drain down into the lower left refuge, then pump up to the 40, and then drain through a hole I drilled back to the 55. So the whole system will be about 110 gallons.

An eel would be a good choice for a tank that size, as would a fuzzy dwarf lion. I think any puffer would outgrow it. How about a cool non-reef safe wrasse? There are a lot of those guys, and they are generally pretty colorful.
