44 gallon trash can hold water???

Any one know if a 44G trash can can hold this amount of water, and if any chemicals from the plastic will leach back into the water? Trying to find an easier way to do good sized water changes. TY

Many people store water in trash cans, I think the brute trash cans are pretty popular for this

Mine is in a food grade 33 gallon. Well, my RODI is. I only mix when needed.

Yep, I use a 32gal Brute and mounted the wheels on the bottom to move it easily.
I fill it up with around 25-27 gallons at a time and does fine..

i use the 44 gallon mix up the salt and toss in a 802/804 power head in
there to keep the water moving untill i need it

Yes, plastic trash cans are fine to use.

Just make sure it is cylinder shaped and super thick. Like little_fish says Brute's are perfect. I went through 2 before finding brute worked perfectly.

Be aware that the brute containers do fatigue over time. Someone post here in the last 6 months about flooding her basement when one gave. Sounded like she had it for some year though.

I found an option that I'm interested in for my dream system. A cone shaped tank with a drain on the bottom. Pricey, but I could use them to set up a gravity fed system that I could drain completely without moving them.

Until then, I'm using Brute cans with wheels.

It wasn't brute, but some generic trash can that I used only for water changes. It's otherwise dry and empty.

I use one with roller wheels that I got at target and keep it in the closet. I love it, it was a great investment.
