I was looking into something like that for my 12gallon aquapod since my rio800 is kinda weak sauce... Get a lil more movement for only a few bucks. Will most likely do that when I mod the lid and take it off due to overheating issues I am having...

Good powerhead but is needed?As long as it not kicking up the sand,lots of flow is a good thing.

I proped the feeding lid of mine open with toothpicks this summer... worked great to combat heat!

I would get rid of the biowheel due to the fact ot leads to excess nitrates..... as for water movement, like freak said as long as the sand stays in one place you should be fine,
