Am I dampening my lighting?

I recently bought a 2 T5HO hood for my 20 gallon with hopes to keep some simple corals.
I'm pretty sure that should be enough...but I did put a black mesh over the top of the tank to make sure they can't jump out.
Could that mesh dampen my light due to the color reflection? If it does do you think white mesh could work...I can't let them jump but I want the most light as possible.

The mesh will interfere with the amount of light getting through to the tank, but if the plan is on keeping "simple corals" you should be ok. You may want to try a cut to size piece of plastic egg crate that can be purchased in the lighting section on your local HD or Lowes.
