Another new guy

Hey everyone new to the hobby. Right now I am only in my planning stages designing the tank stand(building the stand myself). I know that I want a 150 gallon tank and that is about it. So I am here to learn and have read some good threads so far. Thanks in advance for the welcome.

Welcome. I recommend at least 2 feet wide. that way the tank will not be so tall and you will be able to bet better lighting to the bottom with less wattage. also the additional width will give you room to play out infront of the reef without being cramped. you will also be able to access the top of the sand bed easier as the tank will not be as tall as it would be if only 18" wide. good luck. start a build out thread in the tank forum and keep us posted on your progress.
