Another thread about poop

OH yeah. I knew you'd be sucked in by that title. And now, here you are, reading about poop. You really should get a hobby. Oh wait...
Anyhoo, I mentioned it in my build thread but thought I'd throw it out here as well in case anyone else can benefit from it....I added a Flame Angel. He's been at the LFS for a month. Looks great. Eats like a pig. I did not qt him. I added him on Friday. Last night after he ate I noticed WHITE STRINGY POO hanging off of him. Now, I remember reading those words on this forum and I know it was in a bad context. So, I've done some research and am now worried he has a parasite. I immediately ordered prazipro.
What do you guys think? Parasite? Should I use the prazipro? Am I worrying too soon? I am NOT going to lose another fish. Do you hear me? I am not. I cannot. Especially this guy, he is too amazing.
Sooo, let me know your opinions on how I should deal with my poop issues.

"Poop Issues" I couldn't pass this one up.

I have had the same "poop issue" with two of my fish on different occassions. Oddly enough both were dwarf angels (coral beauty and cherub) at different times in different tanks. It passed (no pun intended, oh maybe it was) after a day and I haven't seen and problems with either fish since. I took no action and would recommend just keeping an eye on the fish to see if it doesn't just clear up on it's own. My :twocents:

Thanks Mike, I appreciate you sharing your poop experience. :) I will continue to watch and post. Perhaps I will add some pictures. Sounds titillating eh? I'd rather NOT have to dose so I am happy wait and see worked for you.

Usually stringy poop is a sign of worms. Once you get the prazipro, just treat according to the directions and you should be fine. I wouldn't worry too much at this point, other then the poop issues your flame sounds pretty healthy.

Ok, inner poor specialist coming out here, but if you know you have worms and want to keep your fish worm free, you are going to have to treat every month. Every type of intestinal worm I know of encyst in the tissues and according to lifecycle or stress, the worms can rehatch and go through their lifecycle. If you want to be real exact about this stuff . . ..

Ah, LF, we are so lucky to have a poop specialist on the forum. I fed last night and no stringy stuff. I also read that it could be from indigestion. Do I just keep watching for more issues?
At this point, how do I determine if it is worms and if I need to dose at all, or, dose every month, obviously something I don't want to do.

It worms, indigestion wouldnt result in something like that. As long as the fish is stressfree and eating, i would probably only dose once, but it going to be in the tank/fish, but it shouldnt become a major issue with your fish choices.

Thanks Brian. The Prazi will be here Friday and I'll dose. It had me worried that my fish were catching stuff and I wouldn't be able to dose in time.
The last time I added a Flame it must have had something and it took out my other fish. Again, my own fault for not qt-ing. So, I know I have no one to blame but myself.

Thank you Little Fish. That is good to know and makes me feel better. I tested my water and it just didn't make sense. You know the issues I've had and all I could think was, oh please, not again.
I won't try the clown gobies anymore.

POOP UPDATE:
Last night, green and stringy. I Nancy Drewed the situation and determined it was green now because I have fed emerald entree the past 2 nights.
Somtimes, I'm so smart it shocks me.
Can't wait to get the prazi and treat for the stupid parasite.

:)
I am now ready to dump in the prazi pro, I know I turn off the skimmer, how bout the powerheads? And how long do I keep the skimmer off for??
Thanks!
