I'm logged in as a member of the group buy but I don't see discount pricing. Same everyday pricing.

Yeah, I got my email finally and account looked good when I logged in. Transferring 'wish list' over now...

 

Alright - so I'm a little curious about how this generally works. This is my first 'group buy' but I'm worried we're not really seeing/feeling the discount as possible...

I switched things over from my wish list and noticed the lower price once the item was actually in my shopping cart.

When I looked at the total, it was just over $600 not including shipping and I started to become a little concerned, so I did some digging, like a clam...

Koralia Magnum 5 PH:
BRS: $111.99 Amazon.com: 70.99

pH Meter Pen:
BRS: $19.99 Amazon.com: 13.90 (different brand)

Refractometer:
BRS: $36 eCrate: 24.00

Activated Carbon (3lbs):
BRS: $36 Petco: 22.00 (different brand, BRS is proprietary)

Maxi-Jet 1200 (no group-buy discount):
BRS: $24.99 Opentip: 21.88


The method isn't exactly scientific, and I understand the economies of scale enough to know that since, as a group, we're not bulk buying *one* specific item, that the discount isn't as deep, but some of the items are marked up over 40% at BRS, even after discount.

Is this normal, or does anyone else see this as well in their carts? I also see that some of their items (like their GFO and Carbon reactors) or proprietary items they build themselves and it's difficult to compare this overall.

Thoughts?

 

I would use BRS for their specific items like 2-part solutions/mixes, HC GFO, Rox .8 Carbon, drew's dosers, etc.

 

Yeah - I did like the GFO/Carbon Deluxe reactor - but they were out of stock. That was the other disappointment, three of the things, big ticket items, I wanted were out of stock. I called and said I was part of a group buy and wanted to see if there was anyway to order it at the group-buy price but have it on back-order. They apparently don't allow that.

Maybe next time we can try Marine Depot or Dr. Fosters?

 

Aw, that's too bad.

You can try, but I doubt you'd see either of them doing a group buy any time soon seeing as how huge they are and the fact that their prices are usually pretty low to begin with.

 

We could always picket and strike...

 

I'm also surprised that no one on this forum works for one of the major vendors (Marinedepot, Drs F&S, etc.)

Where's the hookup when you need it bad!

 

Even if there were someone who worked for one of those sites...retailers kinda frown upon "sharing" discounts

 

Frown all they want... i want a discount.
