Do you turn off both types of lights or can you live your actinic lighting on? Starting to get a hair algae problem in my tank as well.

A blackout is turning all of the lights off, actinics included

I did a water change, removed/scrubbed the alage off my rocks with a toothbrush, went to the pet store and got 2 emerald crabs and 4 more snails and my tank is doing great a week later! I left my lights on the whole time but they are only on for 6 hrs now...as opposed to 8! Thank you all!

Great! Just saw this thread, that would have been my suggestion, as I had the same issue when I started. I reduced lighting to 6 hrs and scrubbed rock and did lots of water changes. Nice job Michelle!
