Reefing newb
How far does the LR have to be from the rear of the tank? I have read that 4 inches is a good number to allow for proper flow behind the rock. On the other hand, I have seen pics of some nice tanks where the LR appears to be almost touching the rear glass

I have my rocks touching the glass in some places. But it's open enough that water flows behind. I think it's up to you, what size rocks you have and how much space you have to work with. You want to try and minimize the amount of food that can get stuck back there.

As long as you have good circulation dosnt make a diff. except for the collectioin of detritus. That can be resolved by taking a small pump with a piece of tubing on it and blow around once a month or so like a storm to put the settled detritus back into suspension which goes for the reef where the rocks touch each other also. Keep us posted.
